The Boys Star Promises Prequel Vought Rising Will Be "Insanely Good"

As a fan who has been following The Boys since its inception, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and sadness with the announcement of the upcoming fifth season being the last. However, the prospect of spinoffs like Vought Rising, Gen V, and The Boys: Mexico gives me a glimmer of hope that this universe isn’t going anywhere just yet.

It appears that the popular series “The Boys” may be wrapping up after its fifth season, but fret not, as the franchise seems to have a promising future. At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, it was confirmed that a prequel titled “Vought Rising” is under development, focusing on Soldier Boy (portrayed by Jensen Ackles) and Stormfront (Aya Cash). Details about “Vought Rising” are scarce, except for the fact that it will delve into the early adventures of these characters in the 1950s. Judging from Aya Cash’s comments to ComicBook regarding her role in HBO’s upcoming series “The Franchise“, early work on “Vought Rising ” is said to be “incredibly impressive.

Cash clarified during our interview (you can find it above), “Unfortunately, we haven’t discovered the answers just yet.” He went on to say, “I’ve read two scripts that are incredibly impressive. However, that’s pretty much all I can share at this point.

Will There Be Other The Boys Spinoffs?

Apart from “Vought Rising,” Prime Video also has plans for “The Boys: Mexico” and a second season of the spinoff series “Gen V.” As series creator Eric Kripke suggested, there’s a lot of unexplored potential in expanding the franchise with more episodes.

Kripke expressed that the main story involving Butcher and Homelander, much like two planets colliding, can’t be sustained without both characters. He mentioned that the franchise’s spinoffs can carry on, but this specific narrative is coming to an end. However, he suggests that there’s potential for additional tales set within this universe, provided it remains intriguing and eccentric enough to accommodate new stories. Thus, we hope ‘Gen V’ will persist, along with other projects in development.

Why Is The Boys Ending With Season 5?

According to series creator Kripke, wrapping up The Boys with a fifth and final season ensures an ending that’s fulfilling yet not overly dramatic.

In his conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Kripke shared an intriguing aspect of screenwriting: “Three and five are significant numbers in storytelling,” he said. “Three represents movie or TV acts, while jokes usually follow a pattern of three for five. Five is a well-rounded number that allows for telling the story and building to a climax without becoming repetitive.” He added that he had been eager to share this insight, as it’s been challenging to keep it under wraps. Now that he can finally reveal it, he expressed his excitement about spreading the word.

What Is The Franchise About?

The show centers around a group striving for recognition in a cutthroat and disorderly film industry, specifically focusing on a franchise movie that’s not particularly popular. This comedy series delves into the behind-the-scenes turmoil of superhero film production, raising the query – what are the roots of every mishap? Since every problem has its own backstory.

In the ensemble of The Series, we have Cash portraying Anita, Himesh Patel in the role of Daniel, Jessica Hynes taking on Steph, Billy Magnussen stepping into Adam, Lolly Adefope as Dag, Darren Goldstein playing Pat, and Isaac Cole Powell cast as Bryson.

The Franchise premieres on HBO on Sunday, October 6th.
