Reflecting on the captivating lives of these remarkable individuals who graced our screens as the beloved characters from “Desperate Housewives“, I find myself in awe of their transformative journeys beyond Wisteria Lane.
It’s time for a walk down memory, er, Wisteria Lane.
Approximately two decades ago, “Desperate Housewives” made its debut on ABC. No cul-de-sac in television history had ever been as central to a mix of tragedy and hilarity, mystery and mayhem as the suburban neighborhood that was home to this endearing, long-lasting show.
Debuting in the autumn of 2004, this show, crafted by ex-writer of “Golden Girls,” Marc Cherry, featured a stellar cast including Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, Eva Longoria, and Nicollette Sheridan. Among other shows that year such as “Lost” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” it played a significant role in revitalizing the network’s struggling status, while offering viewers an abundance of tantalizing escapades and mind-boggling enigmas to indulge in.
Initially, the cast wasn’t aware that the dramedy would become such a success.
Indeed, initially, there was only one incident involving the pilot, but it eventually expanded into 180 episodes over the course of eight seasons. Throughout this duration, viewers were captivated by one calamity after another that struck the seemingly idyllic community’s unfortunate inhabitants. Off-screen drama and rumors about behind-the-scenes behavior provided ample material for the tabloids to speculate and report on.
2012 spring saw the show’s grand finale, leaving no room for argument about its impact during TV’s golden era. Though some of us ardent fans yearn for a comeback, whether Susan, Lynette, Bree, Gabrielle, and Edie will ever grace our screens together again remains uncertain.
However, should your desire persist for the story of Desperate Housewives not yet have reached its conclusion, continue reading to discover where the show’s main characters find themselves twenty years on.
Following the conclusion of “Desperate Housewives” in 2012, Eva Longoria has since appeared in recurring roles on shows like “The Odd Couple” and “Supergirl.” She also lent her voice to Disney’s animated films “Planes” and its sequel “Planes: Fire & Rescue,” playing the character Dottie.
After her stint as Lynette in the popular ABC series, Huffman went on to act in various shows such as ‘American Crime’, which earned her three consecutive Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie. She also featured in ‘Get Shorty’, ‘When They See Us’, ‘Big Game’, ‘Cake’ and ‘Otherhood’.
Originally known as Gabrielle Solis, she transitioned to acting in movies such as ‘Lowriders’, ‘Overboard’, and ‘Dora and the City of Lost Gold’. She’s also graced numerous TV series including ‘Telenovela’, ‘Only Murders in the Building’, and ‘Land of Women’.
After playing Bree Van de Camp on Desperate Housewives, the former Melrose Place star has since featured on series such as Quantico, Ned and Stacey, You, and Monarch.
During its fifth season, Sheridan’s character Edie Britt from the series was written out after increasing conflicts with another cast member, Cherry, which led to a $20 million lawsuit against the show’s producer and ABC Television. The actress accused wrongful termination, assault, battery, gender violence, discrimination based on various factors, and emotional distress. Her fellow female leads pledged their support for Cherry, and the initial trial ended in a mistrial, with Sheridan’s appeals unsuccessful.
Following his role as Rex, Bree’s husband on the show during its first season, Culp went on to act in various series like “Revolution”, “Bosch”, “The Last Ship”, “The Resident” and others. He also played Congressman Wenham in Marvel’s 2014 film “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and Agent Robinson in the 2018 movie “Collusions”.
Following eight seasons portraying Gabrielle’s husband Carlos Solis, Chavira landed a recurring role in the sitcom “Welcome to the Family,” which unfortunately didn’t last long. Since then, he has appeared in shows like “Scandal,” “Jane the Virgin,” “The Santa Clarita Diet” and “Selena: The Series.
Previously known as Mike Delfino, he shifted his family, which consists of Erin O’Brien, Sheppard, and Malin, from Glendale, California to Chanhassen, Minnesota in 2015. He secured a leading role in the Hallmark Channel’s series adaptation of its well-known film series The Good Witch. Besides this, he has recurring roles on Devious Maids and guest appearances on NCIS: New Orleans. Recently, his credits include Christmas on Cherry Lane and The Real West.
For eight seasons, Tom Scavo (Savant) was married to Lynette. During this time, he’s been a frequent guest star on diverse TV shows like Criminal Minds, 9-1-1, Lucifer, and NCIS.
In the TV series, Mary Alice Young, portrayed by Strong, was a frequently heard but seldom seen narrator. Now, she’s become more noticeable. She took on the role of Ann Ewing in the 2012 reboot of Dallas on TNT, and later starred as Lillian Luthor, Lex and Lena Luthor’s mother, on Supergirl. Strong has also appeared in shows like 13 Reasons Why, Unprisoned, Scandal, Fear the Walking Dead, and several others.
Joining the series as Juanita, the daughter of Gabrielle and Carlos, after a time leap between seasons four and five, De La Garza continued with the show until its conclusion. Since Desperate Housewives ended in 2012, the half-sister of Demi Lovato has matured (she turned 18 in December 2019) and has acted in movies like Caged No More and Gnome Alone, as well as TV shows such as Good Luck Charlie and Bad Teacher.
At the tender age of seven, I began my struggle with self-starvation, an experience I later shared. This was largely influenced by comments I encountered. Unfortunately, my family remained unaware of this ordeal. My mother was oblivious to the fact that I was secretly reading such harmful material because I was quite cunning about it.
In the TV series, Susan’s former husband, Karl Mayer, experienced changes in his role. Initially appearing as a recurring character in season one, he was made a regular cast member in season two. However, this status was altered to a guest role in seasons three and four, then back to a recurring character in seasons five and six. He reappeared as a guest star in season eight. Since the show ended, Karl Mayer has appeared as a guest on shows like Hawaii Five-0, General Hospital, and Devious Maids. Additionally, he is a father to kids named Samuel and Jack.
Initially passing up the part of Bree, Delany eventually became a cast member in season four, taking on the enigmatic character Katherine Mayfair. However, she departed after season six to spearhead her own ABC series titled Body of Proof. Unfortunately, this medical drama was terminated following three seasons. Consequently, Delany secured leading roles in the shows Hand of God and The Code. She has also made appearances in Tulsa King, Mayans M.C., and O Hóspede Americano.
As a lifestyle expert, I can share that I’ve had the pleasure of portraying Susan’s daughter Julie on Desperate Housewives. Once the show came to an end, I ventured into new territories, landing roles in films such as G.B.F., Hall Pass Nightmare, Psycho Sister-In-Law, and A Wedding Wonderland.

Metcalfe has also been open about the challenges he’s faced, including his battle with addiction.
“Getting sober for me was a 20-year saga, really, from when I first started using,” he said on a February 2024 episode of Eric Worre’s Network Marketing Pro podcast. “I do believe that those struggles made me who I am today. I do believe that I have an empathy and a humanity about me that I bring to my work, that I bring to my personal relationships now. I have an appreciation for that depth, but it wasn’t easy.”
Today, Metcalfe is continuing to act—recently appearing in Clear Cut and Divine Influencer—as well as make music.
Ever since I, the enigmatic Paul Young from Wisteria Lane, graced the small screen in Mary Alice’s husband role for the show’s first two seasons and then returned as a series regular in season seven, I’ve been blessed with numerous opportunities to showcase my acting skills. After portraying Bree’s second husband Orson, played by MacLachlan, on the show from seasons three to six, he chose to leave the series in 2010 to avoid the demanding long-distance travel between New York City and the production location. However, he made a comeback as a guest star during the final two seasons of the show.
Following her introduction as Betty Applewhite, the new resident of Wisteria Lane in the show’s second season, Woodard remained active, appearing in brief television series such as “My Own Worst Enemy”, “Three Rivers”, and “State of Affairs” before making her way into Netflix’s Marvel TV universe as the antagonist Mariah Stokes in “Luke Cage”. Ever since I became part of the last season of “Desperate Housewives” as Ben Faulkner, the Australian property tycoon who ended up marrying Renee (played by Williams), I’ve had the privilege to grace a plethora of shows.
