BBC cancels Boris Johnson interview after “embarrassing” mistake by Laura Kuenssberg

As a seasoned movie critic with over three decades of experience under my belt, I must say that this unfortunate turn of events surrounding Laura Kuenssberg‘s interview with Boris Johnson is reminiscent of a classic case of “The Preview Ruining the Premiere.

I, being a follower, am sharing the news that Laura Kuenssberg’s BBC One interview with Boris Johnson, initially planned for 7:30 pm today, has been cancelled following her admission of an “embarrassing” mistake.

The political reporter was all prepared to question the ex-Prime Minister regarding his tenure at 10 Downing Street, with discussions anticipated on issues like Brexit and his approach towards managing the COVID-19 crisis.

However, on the platform known as X (previously Twitter), Kuenssberg disclosed that it had been cancelled due to a significant mistake.

In her preparation for the interview with Boris Johnson tomorrow, she accidentally emailed our briefing materials intended for her team instead of him.

It’s clearly inappropriate to proceed with the interview. I must admit, it’s quite frustrating, and it’s hard to sugarcoat this – it’s an awkward and disheartening situation. Given the numerous crucial questions at stake, it’s unfortunate that we find ourselves in this predicament.

She added: “But red faces aside, honesty is the best policy.”

Upon Kuenssberg’s announcement, numerous journalists expressed their readiness to take over the interview, with Alastair Campbell and Channel 4 News hosts Cathy Newman and Krishnan Guru-Murthy being some of them who were willing to fill in for her.

Simultaneously, various social media users wondered aloud as to why the BBC didn’t assign a different journalist for the interview.

Originally scheduled a month ago, replacing an episode of EastEnders, was The Laura Kuenssberg Interview featuring Boris Johnson.

BBC One has now confirmed that the soap will air as normal at 7:30pm tonight.
