Silent Hill 2 remake: Release date and latest news

Yes, the Silent Hill 2 remake is available for pre-order.

You can acquire physical versions of the game from common retailers like GAME and Amazon. Alternatively, if you’d rather have a digital copy, you can pre-order it on the PlayStation’s official website.

In this case, you have two options for the game. By pre-ordering the standard version, you’ll receive not only the game itself but also masks of Robbie the Rabbit and Mira the Dog.

In addition to the standard version, there’s also an upgraded edition available, which will set you back £69.99 – a £10 increase from the regular price. But fear not, for this premium version offers significantly more content! It comes equipped with a digital art book and soundtrack, a Pyramid Head mask, as well as the two masks previously mentioned. Plus, you’ll gain 48 hours of early access to the game itself.

It’s good news for PC owners, too, as they can also pre-order Silent Hill 2 remake through Steam.

Silent Hill 2 remake: Release date and latest news

The Silent Hill 2 remake will launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 and PC.

The game is initially a time-limited console exclusive on the PlayStation 5. However, it’s important to note that the developers, Bloober Team, and Konami might consider releasing this remake on Xbox or other systems in the future.

It’s confirmed that the Silent Hill 2 remake will initially be available exclusively on PlayStation 5 for a minimum of 12 months. After this period, there’s a possibility that it might become accessible on other gaming platforms around a year after its initial release on PS5.

Silent Hill 2 remake gameplay and story details

As a movie buff, I’d say it like this: “I’ve found myself right back in the eerie town of Silent Hill once more with the highly anticipated remake. I’m stepping into the shoes of James Sunderland, a man who’s received an unexpected letter from his deceased wife three years on. Guided by her plea, I journey to this seemingly familiar place, Silent Hill – our shared haven. But things have changed drastically since my last visit, and I can’t shake off the chilling feeling that the horrors awaiting me here are far beyond anything James could have ever imagined.

In many instances, the psychological survival horror in this series is highly praised as the best, making it an ideal starting point for a complete 4K remake. Since this is a remake rather than just an upgraded version, there may be differences in storytelling and gameplay compared to the original. Keep in mind that this isn’t simply an HD port; some creative liberties are expected and welcomed.

The video below reveals that the game will adopt an over-the-shoulder camera view, similar to Resident Evil 4 Remake and Dead Space. This isn’t unexpected, as it appears this view is typical for survival horror games in today’s gaming world. We’ve bid farewell to the era of fixed cameras and tank controls.

Sony has mentioned that adversaries will now exhibit different movement patterns, making them stand out and adding an element of surprise during battle situations.

In this scenario, James’s talents are subtly highlighted, leading to many thrilling encounters where he often needs to evade adversaries. After all, it’s perfectly fine to retreat, isn’t it?

With Unreal Engine 5’s impressive capabilities, the game’s settings appear remarkably lifelike, promising to intensify the eerie atmosphere of Silent Hill’s misty alleys.

Bloober Team intends to fully leverage the 3D audio features of the PlayStation 5, as well as creatively employ the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. Moreover, the PS5’s high-speed SSD ensures seamless exploration of Silent Hill town without any loading screens.

Expect the Silent Hill 2 remake to feel like a new game but in a familiar setting.
