Is The Rock Returning to WWE at Bad Blood?

As a die-hard WWE fan with decades of wrestling lore etched into my memory, I can sense the electrifying energy building up for the upcoming Bad Blood event! The Rock’s return to WWE has been long-awaited, and his impending showdown with Cody Rhodes is shaping up to be a spectacle that will leave us all spellbound.

In WWE, the influence of the Final Boss is palpable. At WWE WrestleMania 40 in April, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson made his comeback to the ring since 2016, defeating Cody Rhodes in a tag team match, a victory that occurred only 24 hours before Rhodes claimed the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. The following night on WWE Monday Night Raw, The Rock crossed paths with the American Nightmare, reminding him of his previous defeat at their hands. The segment ended with The Rock hinting ominously that his story with Rhodes is far from over, and upon his return to WWE, he will be facing Rhodes again.

The Brahma Bull could be WWE Bad Blood bound.

In a video posted on social media from the set of The Pat McAfee Show, Pat McAfee hinted to WWE Champion Cody Rhodes that someone significant might return to the show this week. Rhodes seemed curious and asked if it was indeed him, then followed up by inquiring which person was returning.

“Okay. Awesome. I don’t know. You told me enough,” McAfee responded. “You just told me enough.”

“A lot happening,” Rhodes added. “Too much happening.”

McAfee’s comments have ignited discussions implying that the “large individual” coming back might be Dwayne Johnson, also known as “The Rock.” Over time, McAfee and The Rock have developed a strong relationship, with The Rock making appearances on McAfee’s talk show and McAfee featuring in The Rock’s WWE SmackDown return segment in Fall 2023. This was his first appearance on WWE television in four years.

Prior to this tease, there has been no word on when The Rock will be back on WWE programming. He has confirmed that he intends to compete at WWE WrestleMania 41 in what he has teased will be “the biggest match of all time.” Even so, the proper WWE WrestleMania 41 build won’t begin until January. The Rock showing face at WWE Bad Blood could be a one-off to plant a seed towards his anticipated future bout with Rhodes or his likely eventual clash with Roman Reigns.

Back in April, The Rock congratulated Cody Rhodes on becoming the Universal Champion with these words: “Well done, Cody Rhodes! As I predicted, when ‘The Final Boss’ makes his comeback, it’s going to be all about you. I’ll draw blood from you again, kid [laughs]. My heartfelt congratulations, Cody Rhodes.

WWE Bad Blood goes down this Saturday, October 5th at 6 PM ET.
