My Hero Academia Just Dropped the Most Gen Z Dub We've Ever Seen

As a long-time fan of My Hero Academia, I must say that the English Dub’s recent developments have been quite intriguing. The way they’ve managed to capture Camie’s “Gen-Z” aesthetic is nothing short of impressive! The line delivery was spot on, and I couldn’t help but chuckle at the term “rizzcake”. It’s not every day you come across such unique slang in an anime dub.

When it comes to English Dubs to popular anime series, there are always sure to be changes that need to be made when presenting a property to Western audiences. Certain voices might sound slightly different, lines are delivered differently to better fit the motions of the characters, and names might be changed depending on the circumstances. My Hero Academia for example wasn’t free from making some changes to its English Dub versus its original Japanese iteration and the latest installment of the former proves it. In depicting the character Camie during her last-minute rescue of Hawks, My Hero Academia’s English scriptwriter shared their thoughts on capturing the hero’s “Gen-Z” aesthetic.

As a reminder for fans of My Hero Academia, the pivotal moment we’re referring to occurred during the seventh season. In this scene, Hawks, the second-ranking hero, found himself in grave danger as he struggled to prevent All For One from reaching Shigaraki, the emerging villain destined to continue his wicked legacy. Fortunately, Camie intervened at a crucial moment, using her Quirk, Glamour, to save Hawks by creating an illusion. In the English dub, this action was accompanied by a catchy performance that had viewers reminiscing about “Generation Z”.

My Hero’s Gen-Z Line Delivery Explained

In a more straightforward and conversational manner, Camie’s amusing remark in the English Dub can be rephrased as: “Wow, that was way too close! Hawks is such a charmer, once you’ve met him, you can’t undo that impression; I’d say I’m entering my mourning period for missing out on him.” This line was crafted by the North American scriptwriter of My Hero Academia, Jeramey Kraatz, who proudly highlighted his fondness for Camie’s dialogue and the use of the term “rizzcake”. As the anime adaptation progresses, we’ll make sure to keep you informed about any other fantastic deliveries from Camie and her friends.

Translating Camie’s colloquial expressions is quite a task, but I’m really excited that I managed to include the term “rizzcake” in the My Hero Academia dub, which I found particularly thrilling.

My Hero Academia’s Seventh Season Finale

As a dedicated gamer, I’m hyped! Only two episodes left in Season 7 of “My Hero Academia” and though the big bad’s down thanks to the Todoroki crew taking out Dabi, there are still some intense battles ahead for our beloved anime heroes. In the sneak peek for the next episode, Toga and Uravity are set to square off once more, with Ochaco stepping in to prevent her bloodthirsty nemesis from causing any more chaos within Hero Society. Given that Toga can conjure infinite copies of herself, this fight’s gonna test Uravity like never before!

In addition to this ongoing dispute, there remains uncertainty about who will ultimately emerge victorious in the encounter between Deku and Shigaraki. With Eraserhead and Monoma no longer restraining Shigaraki’s abilities, Izuku Midoriya will require the combined powers of all Vestiges to secure a win. It should be noted that the original All For One is still at large, now confronting a powerless All Might who has stepped away from combat following their prior battle. Fortunately, Toshinori Yagi possesses a secret weapon that promises to play a crucial role in the climactic battle of My Hero Academia. Although an eighth season hasn’t been officially announced, it seems likely that the tale of Deku and his hero comrades will reach its conclusion on television screens.
