What you need to know

  • Microsoft will remove the Feed from Microsoft 365 website, app, and Office.com.
  • The Feed provides a summary of recent activity, but it has become redundant as Microsoft has moved the essential features from the Feed into the “Recommended” section.
  • Feeds will no longer be available starting on November 1, 2024.

As a long-time Microsoft 365 user with countless hours spent navigating its various features, I must admit that I was initially taken aback when I learned about the impending demise of the Feed section. The Feed has been my go-to for keeping track of recent activity and upcoming events, so its removal seems like a significant change in the landscape of my digital workspace.

Starting November 1, 2024, you’ll notice a change in your Microsoft 365 experience. On that date, Microsoft will no longer provide the Feed section found on Microsoft365.com, office.com, and the Microsoft 365 website. This section displayed activity like comments on documents or upcoming meetings. However, all crucial features of the Feed section have been moved to the “Recommended” section within Microsoft 365 instead.

In a recent blog post, Microsoft announced that they are phasing out the Feed feature within their Microsoft 365 application as part of an ongoing strategy to improve user interactions. This decision will impact both the web versions of Microsoft 365 (accessible at www.microsoft365.com and www.office.com) and the Windows app, known as “Microsoft 365 (Office)”.

In Microsoft 365, the fundamental features of Feeds will persist; however, the rebranding has led to an unconventional nomenclature. What was once labeled as “Recommended” now appears to be more like a feed under a different name, rather than a list of truly recommended items.

Microsoft explained that they are dedicated to keeping your current processes unchanged with their new service, Feed, introduced in 2022. This tool assists users in discovering fresh content and team activities. Over time, they have merged all the crucial features of Feed into a more convenient location within the Microsoft 365 app – the “Recommended” files on the Home tab.
