Who is Kai Widdrington? Meet Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer

As a fervent admirer of Strictly Come Dancing, I can’t help but be captivated by the journey of Kai Widdrington. His story is one that resonates deeply with me, as we both share a passion for dance and an unwavering determination to succeed in our respective fields.

Previously, I had the pleasure of wowing Strictly Come Dancing audiences every week with my dance moves, partnered by broadcasting icon Angela Rippon.

In the year 2021, Widdrington entered a dancing contest. Similar to Rippon, both of them consistently scored between the 30s and upper 20s whenever they danced on stage. However, their journey came to an end in Week 9 as they were eliminated from the competition.

Although he had gained widespread acclaim, having reached the finals of Britain’s Got Talent before, regrettably, Widdrington was among those professionals who didn’t secure a celebrity partner for this season.

If you’re eager to find out more, here’s everything you need to know about Kai Widdrington.

Born into a family of accomplished footballers, Kai Widdrington initially seemed destined to follow in their footsteps on the football pitch. However, at the age of 12, instead of signing a Premier League contract, he decided to pursue dance as his career path.

Two years after making this strategic decision, he emerged victorious as the Junior World Latin American champion. In 2012, he advanced to the finals of Britain’s Got Talent, performing alongside his dance partner Natalia Jeved.

2014 saw Kai participate in Britain’s Got Talent a second time, this time as part of the ballroom dance troupe, Kings & Queens. This team also included dancers Katya and Neil Jones, who later became professionals on Strictly Come Dancing. Unfortunately, Kings & Queens were eliminated during the fifth live semi-final, with Jack Pack taking the win in that round.

In 2017, Kai made his debut as a professional dancer on Dancing with the Stars Ireland, which is similar to Strictly Come Dancing in the UK. He participated for four consecutive years until 2020, and finished runner-up in both 2018 and 2020. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that he’ll eventually take home the top prize on Strictly!

In 2021, when he started on Strictly, it wasn’t his debut performance; in fact, he had already danced with Amy Dowden as part of the professionals’ Remembrance Day 2020 number.

But despite his previous appearances on the show, he wasn’t part of the line-up this year.

He said to The Daily Star, “Everyone desires to become famous. Regrettably, my chance didn’t come up in this series. Tragically, only two could shine in this series, and it turns out that I am one of the ones who couldn’t.

However, he remained optimistic about Strictly 2025, adding: “Some of us don’t get partners and that’s the way it is. Let’s see what happens next year. Hopefully, I’ll get one then.”

What has Kai said about being on Strictly Come Dancing?

For quite some time now, Kai has been an ardent admirer of Strictly Come Dancing. In fact, he’s been tuning into this program since its debut way back in 2004.

In 2021, when he returned to the program, he expressed: “This moment is my childhood dream realized. From being an avid Strictly viewer since its debut as a boy from Southampton, and now, 18 years later, standing as a professional dancer on this show, it’s an indescribably fantastic sensation and the pinnacle achievement of my career.
