The Fate of That '90s Show Revealed After Season 2

As a longtime fan of engaging storytelling and captivating characters, I find myself both excited and a bit melancholic as I delve into this latest wave of renewals and finales. With Eric Kripke’s The Boys Season 5 being announced as the final season, it feels like the end of an era for those of us who have been along for the twisted, gory ride since day one. Having grown up with Superman and other DC heroes, I never thought I’d find myself rooting for the anti-heroes, but here we are!

Netflix won’t be returning to Point Place once more.

In his touching message, Kurtwood Smith announced that “That ’90s Show” was unfortunately terminated following its second season. He expressed his gratitude to fans for their unwavering support of the spin-off from “That ’70s Show.

He shared on Instagram on October 4th, “I understand you’ve been eagerly waiting for season 3, but unfortunately, I must share some difficult news… Netflix has decided not to continue the series.” He also took a moment to express his gratitude to all the fans who have supported and watched the show. “No matter where in the world I travel, I’ve encountered you, my supporters, and your messages on social media have been nothing short of wonderful,” he added, featuring a photo with his co-star Debra Jo Rupp interacting with the studio audience.

Kurtwood gratefully spoke about returning to play Red Forman once more, alongside Debra Jo’s portrayal of Kitty Forman, expressing his appreciation for having the chance to resurrect this renowned character.

He expressed his delight at having the opportunity to create Grandpa Red, saying, “Every moment has been a joy for me.” Previously, he emphasized that the series was filled with genuine emotion and an exceptional team of actors, writers, directors, producers, and crew. He thanked everyone for allowing Red, Kitty, their grandkids, friends, neighbors, the original cast members from “That 70’s Show,” and all the guest stars to entertain you for two seasons.

Still, he’s hopeful fans will get another chance to hang out down the street.

Using Red Forman’s own phrase, he emphasized that we won’t act foolishly; instead, we will make every effort to ensure the success of our high school journey – akin to diligent grandparents. This is what #That90sShow and being the best fans are all about.

Although Netflix hasn’t officially announced it, rumors of the show’s cancellation have surfaced, with Kurtwood’s statement following roughly a month since the last episode of Season 2 was made available for streaming on August 22nd.

In the series “That ’90s Show,” which unfolds two decades later than the initial sitcom, we follow Leia, the offspring of Donna (Laura Prepon) and Eric (Topher Grace), as she experiences a summer with her grandparents Red and Kitty. Apart from Topher and Laura, “That ’90s Show” also welcomed back Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis (in their roles as Kelso and Jackie), and Wilmer Valderrama as Fez. Unfortunately, Danny Masterson, a member of the original cast, was absent from the revival, as he was incarcerated due to being found guilty of multiple charges related to sexual assault.

Previously, the original cast had wished for the new series actors to spend just as much time hanging out in the Forman’s basement as they did.

In an interview with TopMob News in February 2023, Ashton expressed his hope that those kids (the actors) have had the chance to watch ten seasons of that show. He found it incredibly cool working with Kurtwood and Debra Jo, whom he adores deeply. While working on “The Ranch” for Netflix, both of them appeared as guests on the show, a experience Ashton cherished. He appreciates the entire cast of the show, everyone they worked alongside with. For him, it was like reuniting with an old team and re-living those memories was extremely nostalgic and enjoyable.
