Metal Gear Solid Star David Hayter Teases Return to Solid Snake/Big Boss Role

As a long-time Metal Gear Solid fan who grew up with Solid Snake’s gruff voice, brought to life by none other than David Hayter, I can hardly contain my excitement! The news of Hayter returning to the franchise after more than a decade is like hearing an old friend’s voice over the phone after years apart.

As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share the news that David Hayter, the legendary voice behind Solid Snake and Big Boss in the Metal Gear Solid series, has hinted at rejoining the franchise once more. Though he last gave life to one of gaming’s most iconic characters in 2010’s Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, his absence was felt in 2015’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, where Kiefer Sutherland took over the role of Snake. With Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater on the horizon, it seems that our beloved David Hayter will once again lend his talents to this cherished character.

In his latest update on platform X, voice actor Hayter hinted at having stepped into a recording studio recently for a character he hasn’t played in a while. While Hayter didn’t explicitly say it was for Snake, fans jumped to the conclusion that this was the role he was referring to. Later, Hayter posted a GIF from ‘Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater’, which strongly suggested he was indeed recording for Snake, though more information wasn’t disclosed.

I was in the booth today.

Playing a role I’ve not played, since…

Given that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is essentially a remake of the original Metal Gear Solid 3, it was expected that David Hayter’s voice would be featured in the game, as he originally voiced the character. Now that Hayter has confirmed his return to the recording studio, it leaves us wondering. One possible explanation for Hayter reprising this role is to record new lines specifically for Metal Gear Solid Delta that have been added to the remake. However, it’s also possible that Hayter may have given us our first hint of something entirely new in the Metal Gear series that Konami has not yet disclosed.

Currently, Konami seems vague regarding the launch of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, but it has been confirmed that the remake is under development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. There’s been a growing buzz around the project in recent times, suggesting we might get more details about Kojima Productions’ work on the game before the end of 2024.
