Glen Powell's Running Man Remake Gets Release Date

As a seasoned gamer and movie buff, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming release of Glen Powell’s remake of “The Running Man.” Being a fan of both Edgar Wright’s previous works like “Baby Driver” and “Shaun of the Dead,” and Stephen King’s dystopian novel, this project seems like a perfect fusion of my two favorite worlds.

The upcoming remake of “The Running Man” starring Glen Powell has finally secured a premiere date. It was announced by Paramount that this movie will make its grand entrance exclusively in cinemas on November 21, 2025. Known for directing “Baby Driver” and “Shaun of the Dead”, Edgar Wright is at the helm of this new adaptation of Stephen King’s 1982 dystopian novel named “The Running Man”. Filming is scheduled to start this coming November.

Furthermore, Paramount has adjusted the launch dates for several projects slated for 2025. The chilling horror film titled Vicious, starring Dakota Fanning and Kathryn Hunter, is now scheduled for release on February 28th, instead of August 8th. The much-anticipated animated movie The Smurfs Movie, featuring Rihanna as Smurfette, has been rescheduled from Valentine’s Day (February 14th) to July 18th. Lastly, the reboot of the beloved comedy franchise Naked Gun, starring Liam Neeson, has been pushed back from July 18th to August 1st.

What Is The Running Man Remake About?

In a bleak future society, people have the chance to participate in a popular television program called “The Running Man.” This game requires contestants to outrun law enforcement for an extended period. If they manage to evade capture successfully, they’ll win a substantial sum of money. However, their victory is short-lived as they are pursued relentlessly for a month by men with orders to kill on sight. The original story was adapted into a film in 1987, under the direction of Paul Michael Glaser and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as the main character.

In a past statement, Powell expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “I found ‘Edgar Wright’ in my email the other day, and I wrote ‘Edgar.’ We’ve been exchanging ideas about script matters, and it’s a blast. The universe Edgar has created for this project is absolutely mind-blowing – it’s fantastic. To be honest, we both are huge fans of Stephen King’s book, and the character we’re developing together promises to be incredible. I’m absolutely thrilled about it. As it turns out, Edgar Wright was at the top of my list of directors I wanted to collaborate with back in 2008 when I moved to LA, which I sent to my agent then. Guess who’s number one on that list? None other than Edgar Wright. So, getting to work with him right now is just so incredibly awesome.

Will Glen Powell Play a Superhero?

Due to his increasing fame from shows like “Anyone But You”, “Hit Man” and “Twisters”, some enthusiasts are speculating if Powell might step into the world of superheroes somehow. Although Powell hasn’t been confirmed for roles in either the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the revamped DC Universe, he has mentioned before that playing Batman is a role he finds intriguing.

In an interview with The Discourse podcast from The Playlist in August, Powell shared that he hasn’t received a call yet from either DC or Marvel. However, he expressed his enthusiasm for their work, stating, “I adore everything they produce!” He further added that he enjoyed watching Deadpool and Wolverine, found the creative direction taken by Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds to be exceptional and entertaining. Similarly, he voiced his support for James Gunn, Peter Safran, and their projects at DC, expressing confidence in the positive impact they will have on the industry as a whole. In essence, Powell is rooting for all of them and considers himself a passionate fan of these movies.

As mentioned above, The Running Man will debut exclusively in theaters on November 21, 2025.
