One Piece Will Replace A Main Character's Voice Actor

As a lifelong fan of One Piece and someone who has followed the Straw Hat Pirates since their humble beginnings, this news about Kazuki Yao taking a break from the series due to health issues is bittersweet. On one hand, it’s heartbreaking to see one of our beloved voice actors stepping away, but on the other, I’m glad that he’s prioritizing his well-being over his work.

Currently, there’s no better moment than the present for the Straw Hat Pirates in “One Piece.” With the final saga unfolding in both the manga and anime versions, Luffy and his band of pirates have gained widespread recognition as the Grand Line gains increasing fame. The release of Netflix’s live-action “One Piece” series has also broadened its fanbase globally, thanks to the genius of Eiichiro Oda. However, some recent updates might surprise Straw Hat enthusiasts; it’s been announced that a voice actor, crucial to one of the shonen’s most iconic characters, is stepping away due to health concerns.

Kazuki Yao, who has portrayed Franky, the cyborg crew member of Luffy’s Straw Hat Pirates and shipwright, is taking a short break from his role. Although the anime version of One Piece hasn’t explicitly mentioned that Yao will be temporarily stepping away from playing Franky, it appears likely due to his health concerns. Meanwhile, he will be lending his voice to another character, Jango, starting with Episode 1121.

Kazuki Yao Takes A Break From One Piece

In an official statement, the One Piece anime stated the following, “The anime ” #ONEPIECE ” will be broadcast on Sunday, October 6th at 9:30am. Django appears in episode 1121, “Garp and Kuzan: Master and Student’s Conflict of Justice.” Due to poor health of Kazuki Yao, who plays Jango, Wataru Takagi will be taking over the role. We hope you will continue to support the anime “ONE PIECE.”

In addition to acting as Jango and Franky in the series “One Piece,” Kazuki Yao also portrayed Mr. 2 (also known as Bonclay), a villain from Baroqueworks who briefly allied with the Straw Hats. Throughout his anime career, Yao has played numerous roles beyond the Grand Line. His credits include Gaston in “Berserk,” Yoki in “Fullmetal Alchemist,” Dark Schneider in “Bastard,” and Judau in “Super Robot Wars.” Having been a fixture of the anime industry since the 1980s, Kazuki’s absence from “One Piece” and the wider anime world will be deeply felt.

Who is Replacing Kazuki Yao?

In this upcoming anime series, Wataru Takagi is set to replace Jango as the voice actor. Anime enthusiasts may recognize Takagi from his roles such as Obito in “Naruto”, Gohei in “Rurouni Kenshin”, Ganju in “Bleach”, and Okuyasu Nijimura in “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable”. At the time of writing, it remains undecided whether Takagi will also step into the role of Franky or if a different voice actor will be chosen to portray the Straw Hats’ shipwright.

One Piece Replacements

During a temporary hiatus due to personal health matters, Kazuki is being replaced. Similarly, another prominent voice actor, Toru Furuya, known for voicing Sabo (Luffy’s brother) in “One Piece,” has stepped away from the anime industry due to a long-term relationship with a fan. This absence also includes his role as Yamcha in the upcoming “Dragon Ball Daima.” Being associated with Akira Toriyama’s anime adaptations since their debut in the 1980s, Furuya’s departure leaves a significant impact on both “One Piece” and “Dragon Ball Daima.
