As a dedicated fan who’s navigated through the twisted paths of Until Dawn since its original release, I must admit that the remake has left me with mixed feelings, especially regarding the revamped scene involving Chris and Ashley. While I appreciate the enhanced visuals and overall gameplay improvements, the alteration to this particular scene feels like a misstep to me.
In the revamped version of “Until Dawn” on both PC and PS5, there’s more than just an aesthetic upgrade. This new edition also introduces modifications to the PS4 game’s content. Some parts of the game take players by surprise. One significant alteration made is in a key scene from the original game, which has been reimagined for the remake. While some fans appreciate the change, others express mixed feelings about it.
Currently, one of the popular discussions on the Until Dawn Reddit forum, a day post its remake release, revolves around a specific scene in the game. For those who haven’t played the remake yet, beware of potential spoilers. If you observed the scene where Chris gets locked out by Ashley and eventually perishes, it indeed feels different because it actually is.
In the updated version, Ashley finds herself a greater distance from the door compared to before. Simultaneously, Chris frantically pounds on the door. Seeing this, Ashley hesitates for a brief moment, then takes off running towards him with the intention of opening the door and attempting to rescue him. Regrettably, she arrives too late and begins to weep, which was not the case in the original version. If you’ve played it before, you may have noticed that Ashley doesn’t display the same level of remorse and emotion as she does in this revised scene.
According to the post, the updated scene appears more authentic and fleshed out, but it seems like a rewrite or alteration of earlier events, often referred to as a retcon. Originally, the developers indicated that Ashley intentionally left Chris outside, suggesting a darker aspect of her character. This depth seems absent in this revised scene. In simpler terms, while the final outcome of the scene isn’t drastically changed, the potential impact on the characters involved has been significantly altered.
They did completely redo the scene around THAT death.

“I found the transformation displeasing. I appreciated Ashley’s complex, sociopathic traits. I can’t understand why they altered that aspect.” Additionally, regarding her facial expressions, it seemed strange and devoid of emotion in that particular scene.
Gee whiz! I must admit, I’m genuinely let down. I really want to form my own opinion about this, but I can’t stand how they’re trying to portray Ashley as sympathetic. She’s more of a monster hidden behind a beautiful facade, and that’s why she’s so captivating and intriguing.
Among the game’s dedicated Reddit community, it appears that there is a widespread agreement that the recent change to the storyline is not favorable. Although the revised scene may flow more smoothly, it significantly alters the original meaning, effectively eliminating Ashley’s enigmatic dark side. Over time, many have criticized this scene as inconsistent with Ashley’s character, and a remake that distorts the original intent has not often been met with approval. This instance is no different.
