As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that the news about Halo Studios rebranding and transitioning to Unreal Engine 5 has left me both exhilarated and curious. The Halo franchise has been a cornerstone of my gaming life since the early days of Xbox, so any changes to this beloved series are bound to stir up emotions.


Significant shifts are on the horizon for the renowned video game franchise, Halo, and 343 Industries, the team responsible for it. It’s been made public that the studio is undergoing a transformation and will now be recognized as Halo Studios. The franchise appears to be gearing up for a new phase in its existence.

According to Pierre Hintze, studio head, if you examine Halo closely, it has had two significantly different phases: the first was under Bungie, and the second was under 343 Industries. Now, given our audience’s desire for more, we won’t just aim to streamline development but will change the way we create Halo games. Essentially, we’re starting a new chapter today.

What specifically comes with the studio’s rebranding, beyond just a new name? To align with Halo Studios’ stated objective of refining its content creation process, as previous reports suggest, the studio appears to be abandoning its own Slipspace Engine, which was used in the development of Halo Infinite. From now on, all upcoming games will be developed using Unreal Engine 5.

Over the past couple of years, Halo Studios has been developing “Project Foundry,” a broad technology demonstration built to form the base for future Halo games using Unreal Engine 5. Simultaneously, they are also engaged in creating several new Halo game projects.
