EastEnders airs epic Cindy and David reunion in early iPlayer release

As a long-time EastEnders enthusiast with a memory that spans decades, I must say it is quite thrilling to witness the return of David Wicks (Michael French) after a decade-long absence. It’s not just the familiar faces that draw me in, but also the complex relationships and the intricate web of secrets that the characters harbor.

*Heads up: The events disclosed here could reveal key plot points from the EastEnders episode scheduled to air on BBC iPlayer and BBC One, this coming Monday, 7th October.

It’s not a stretch to note that Cindy Beale, portrayed by Michelle Collins, shares a significant past with many EastEnders characters, and this new arrival is no exception.

Upon returning to Walford following a decade-long absence, David Wicks (played by Michael French) wasn’t anticipating encountering Cindy on his very first day back.

The duo successfully steered clear of each other, mainly by Cindy’s choice as she maintained a low key presence and didn’t actively seek out his company.

David had other pressing issues to attend to, so upon his return, he aimed to assist Bianca (played by Patsy Palmer) who has been grappling with her psychological well-being recently. However, she hasn’t acknowledged this struggle within herself yet.

The returnee went to pay Reiss (Johnny Freeman) a visit, concerned with him being the reason Bianca has been lashing out.

David was instantly unsure about Reiss, with the pair rubbing each other up the wrong way.

Cindy, meanwhile, caught up with George, who was surprised to not see her out and about.

Unable to disclose much about her past involving David, where she had been unfaithful to Ian, she left George wondering if she was grappling with the difficulty of revealing to someone else that she’d survived for so long.

Cindy later put her war paint on (some eyeliner), and headed out to confront her past.

She saw David sitting on a bench in the middle of the Square, and approached him from behind.

“Bad pennies and that,” Cindy joked, as his face dropped.

What will they have to say to each other after all this time?

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One and from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
