Doctor Who legend optimistic about return after 60 years: “Hopefully it’s going to be a yes”

As a lifelong Whovian who has witnessed the TARDIS materialize and dematerialize more times than I can count, it is truly heartwarming to see Carole Ann Ford express her desire to return to the world of Doctor Who after six decades. Her poignant words about the emotional intensity of such a reunion resonate deeply with me, for I too know the power of nostalgia and the bonds that tie us to our favorite characters.

As a passionate film enthusiast, I can’t help but express my continued desire to reprise my role in the iconic science fiction series, Doctor Who. With the 60th anniversary of my last appearance on the horizon, the nostalgia is stronger than ever, and I can’t help but long for a return to that extraordinary world.

For a year at the start of its groundbreaking debut, Carroll portrayed Susan Foreman, the Doctor’s granddaughter, in the series. However, her character was eliminated from the storyline during the Dalek Invasion of Earth episode, which aired on Boxing Day 1964.

As a film enthusiast, I eagerly await the day when The Doctor, who once promised Susan he’d return for her, finally makes good on his word. However, as of October 2024, that special day has yet to arrive. Yet, at Luton Comic-Con, Ford shared with us fans (via BBC News) that reprising the role would be a deeply emotional experience.

She expressed that the excitement might be too much for her, it would be incredibly intense.

Besides simply coming back, it would also resurface many memories associated with William Russell, Jackie, and Bill (William Hartnell), among others who are no longer with us. There’s a possibility that I may become emotional and tear up.

Ford went on to say, “I can’t help but feel like I’m the only one left, and that’s not a feeling I enjoy.

In the most recent season of Doctor Who, specifically seasons 14, my beloved character Susan, made a reappearance not just once but twice! First, she was highlighted in ‘The Devil’s Chord’, and then she graced our screens once more in ‘The Legend of Ruby Sunday’. What an exciting journey it has been for us both!

Initially, there was speculation that the recurring character Susan Triad, portrayed by Susan Twist, might have been a reincarnation of sorts. However, it turned out that she was actually working for Sutekh all along.

Ford expressed his thoughts on bringing his character back after a prolonged hiatus: “He promised to return for me, but didn’t. If I ever cross paths with him again, I’d surely give him an earful!

I appreciate their predicament; writing for me certainly isn’t easy. It’s been six decades since I last stepped into it.

She added: “I’ve met Russell [T Davies] a few times and I absolutely adore him. He is the man that would be the boss man to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ – so hopefully it’s going to be ‘yes’.”
