Mandip Gill breaks down Curfew character’s “rage”: ‘She’s got secrets’

As a seasoned movie-goer who’s seen more than my fair share of dystopian dramas, I must say that “Curfew” piques my interest with its intriguing premise and the promising performance by Mandip Gill. Her portrayal of Sarah, a single parent grappling with her past while navigating a world where gender roles are drastically altered, is undeniably captivating.

Previously known Doctor Who actress Mandip Gill has been hinting at her intense character in the upcoming show Curfew, a role that might conceal secrets beyond first impressions.

In the Paramount Plus series, she’s teamed up with Sarah Parish and Alexandra Burke in a setting where males are fitted with electronic trackers and are restricted from leaving their residences between 7 PM and 7 AM, which is part of a program called the Women’s Safety Ordinance.

Gill portrays Sarah, a solitary parent whose former partner is incarcerated due to violating the curfew rule, a contentious law she strongly supports. Her conviction is so firm that she lands a position within the government as an electronic monitor.

Upon the enactment of this law, it doesn’t take long for doubts to arise, as a chilling discovery is made outside my workplace – a lifeless body. Before I know it, I find myself immersed in an investigation aimed at finding the murderer, as my amiable demeanor starts to transform.

“Why is she so upset? What’s causing her frustration? I don’t understand why she works at the tagging center when there are plenty of other options, but it seems like she’s doing it because of some past event. That’s why she’s acting this way.

Mandip also went on to talk about Sarah’s “secrets”, which threaten to spill out into the open.

She noted, “It’s rumored that her former partner will be released.” She continued, “He’s currently serving time for a reason. Moreover, she has some hidden matters. Consequently, this phase of her life is extremely tense and draining, and managing it with a teenager certainly isn’t making things any simpler; in fact, it’s becoming increasingly challenging, and she seems to be exacerbating the situation herself.

Throughout the duration of the program, I found myself questioning the legitimacy of the male curfew, especially since Pamela strongly suspected that the crime bore the distinctive signs of a male perpetrator.

As a movie enthusiast, I find myself entangled in the labyrinth of bureaucracy set by the upper echelons of the police force, who are skeptical – if not downright unwilling – to accept the truth. The unfortunate victim met their end during the hours when the city was under curfew.

In Gill’s opinion, a curfew might never be truly effective, but she conceded that the answer isn’t straightforward in the show’s unique setting.

She mentioned that there might be numerous solutions, but curfew, in her opinion, is not one of them. In essence, that’s what the concept of curfew entails – it originates from various sources and presents a diverse range of possibilities to you.

Within this narrative, a variety of perspectives can be found. It seems that each individual is privately thinking either ‘This works’ or ‘This doesn’t work, but we have to make it work’, and each person holds their own unique viewpoint as to why it’s necessary.
