The duo’s collaboration on Bad Boys back in the day was a cinematic gem, and it seems they’re ready to recreate some magic after all these years.
Although he’s still climbing back up the ladder towards stardom, following the infamous Oscar slap incident (which might be remembered as the most notorious moment in Oscar history for many years, if not decades), Will Smith has partially rehabilitated his career thanks to the success of Bad Boys 4. It seems that Will Smith and Michael Bay will collaborate once more on their next film, nearly three decades after their initial project.
The upcoming film will have a fast and casual approach for Netflix streaming. Smith recently withdrew from the action-thriller “Sugar Bandits,” which he had been planning as his next project. In this movie, Smith was set to portray a former special forces soldier leading an elite vigilante team aiming to dismantle the drug trade in Boston. Stefano Sollima, director of “Sicario: Soldado,” joined as director earlier this year, under the condition that Smith would be starring. It’s been speculated that the massive $400m box office success of “Bad Boys 4” allowed Smith to transition smoothly into a larger studio production. Originally, David Leitch was set to direct, but he stepped down to work on another project titled “The Fall Guy” instead.
A man, who finds himself in Tijuana without any recollection of his past, is the focus of this story. As he reconstructs his history, it becomes clear that he has been leading two distinct lives: one as a powerful criminal mastermind, and the other as a covert operative for the CIA.
Previously, Michael Bay directed the action-thriller “6 Underground” for Netflix in 2019, which turned out to be a significant hit for the streaming service. His 2022 thriller “Ambulance” is currently one of the most popular action movies on their channel. Next up, Bay will team up with Will Smith again for Sony Pictures’ sci-fi thriller “Resistor,” an adaptation of Daniel Suarez’s 2014 novel “Influx.” So it’ll be exciting to see these two collaborate once more after such a long time.
