Veteran voice actor Doc Harris, famously recognized by anime enthusiasts as the initial English dubber for Dragon Ball Z, passed away at the age of 76.
Last Saturday (5th October), after undergoing minor surgery the previous month, Harris, whose radio career spanned five decades, sadly passed away at Vancouver General Hospital, as reported by Broadcast Dialogue.
Originally named Gilbert Auchinleck, this voice artist became particularly renowned for his work in the iconic anime show Dragon Ball Z, which was adapted from the manga by Akira Toriyama. Over a span of seven years (from 1996 to 2003), he lent his voice to over 200 episodes of this popular series.
In various Dragon Ball movies, the actor’s smooth and unique vocal tone was also showcased. Other notable roles include My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, Barbie and the Rockers: Out of This World, Camp Candy, and the video game Captain N: The Game Master.
In an Instagram post, Ian Corlett, a longtime friend and collaborator, honored Harris by stating that “the influence he had on me and many others will live on in our memories for a long time.
Acknowledging the significant impact Harris had during the early stages of his career, Corlett emphasized that he was deeply immersed in music and singularly unique.
