As a long-time fan of the Silent Hill series, I must say that the release of the remake for Silent Hill 2 has been nothing short of exhilarating! Despite its relatively lower peak player count compared to other horror remakes, it’s heartening to see such a strong showing for a game from a dormant franchise.
As a thrilled fan, I’m excited to share that my beloved game, Silent Hill 2, has officially gone global today! Over the weekend, Deluxe Edition owners got an early taste, and the response has been phenomenal, with critics heaping praise upon it. Now, it seems that the survival horror community is also showing strong interest, making this a truly exciting time to be a part of the Silent Hill 2 universe.
According to SteamDB, at the moment, the game “Silent Hill 2” currently boasts a peak of 23,676 players on Steam. These figures aren’t too shabby, given that it’s the first installment in quite some time for a franchise that’s been relatively quiet, and one that historically hasn’t sold in massive quantities. However, when compared to how other horror remakes have fared recently, its player count is slightly below average.
When it comes to comparison, it’s safe to say that Resident Evil will be the benchmark for many. In particular, Resident Evil 2 boasted more than 74,000 simultaneous players, while Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 had over 60,000 and 168,000 respectively. If we step outside the Resident Evil universe, the Dead Space remake also deserves a mention, with a peak of over 30,000 concurrent players.
In our appraisal of Silent Hill 2, we bestowed upon it a perfect score of 10/10. We remarked that Bloober Team and Konami’s remake of the 2001 original is undoubtedly among the top survival horror games available today.
