As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of wrestling fandom under my belt, I can hardly contain my excitement for this weekend’s AEW WrestleDream! The return of Swerve Strickland has been long-awaited since his brutal cage match against “Hangman” Adam Page at All Out. Now, with MVP and The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin) looming on the horizon, it’s going to be a bloodbath!
Swerve Strickland, who was previously the AEW World Champion, is set to come back on the wrestling scene this weekend during WrestleDream, as announced tonight on AEW Dynamite. Since his significant defeat against “Hangman” Adam Page in a cage match at AEW All Out in September, Swerve has been off TV. However, updates have been shared by his manager, Prince Nana. The match against Hangman left Swerve visibly battered following their violent and brutal confrontation, which seemed to signal the end of their turbulent rivalry – for now. Yet, it doesn’t necessarily mean that another challenger isn’t lurking in the shadows, eager to take action.
In the latest installment of AEW Dynamite, MVP stunned viewers with his entrance and challenged Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana. During the same segment, he hinted at the upcoming arrival of The Hurt Syndicate, specifically mentioning Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin. The latter, Benjamin, had an impressive debut the previous week that was met with deafening cheers. It’s been announced that Swerve has officially inked a new AEW contract, which is anticipated to be one of the most significant in the company’s five-year lifespan.
AEW WrestleDream Matches
Over the weekend, AEW is making its way to Tacoma for the second annual WrestleDream pay-per-view event. Nine matches have been confirmed so far, with Swerve also scheduled to appear. On the main card, Mariah May will challenge for the Women’s World Championship against Willow Nightingale, who managed to defeat previous champions Nyla Rose, Jamie Hayter, and Saraya on Dynamite to secure this opportunity.
Apart from that, Bryan Danielson, our World Champion, comes back home to confront Jon Moxley, a former member of his BCC stable, who betrayed him at All Out and nearly choked him with a plastic bag. Since Danielson’s in-ring time is running out, it might be his last AEW match before he calls it a career. It’d be quite a send-off to spend the weekend surrounded by loved ones, wouldn’t it? In non-title bouts, Hangman squares off against Jay White, who sustained an injury to his foot during his previous clash with the cowboy. The past few months have brought a lot of changes, and Hangman is no longer the wrestler he once was.
