Silent Hill 2 Remake Guide – How to Get All Unlockables

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must admit that the New Game Plus mode in Silent Hill 2 Remake is a breath of fresh air. The nostalgia of revisiting familiar locations while uncovering new secrets and unlockables truly brings back the essence of classic survival horror games.

In the remake of Silent Hill 2, they’ve included a “New Game Plus” feature similar to the one in the original game from 2001. This mode offers various unlockables and collectibles that help advance the story. Some of these items can lead to previously unseen endings or surprising outcomes.

This Silent Hill 2 Remake guide lists all the unlockables to be found in New Game Plus.

New Filters

These graphical modifiers are great for creating a distinctive visual feel to playthroughs, and are all added automatically to the Display & Graphics menu after a successful initial run, for use even in a regular New Game.

Carry Forward

In New Game Plus, you’ll begin with a clean slate, just as if you were starting fresh for the first time. However, to soften the blow, you’ll have an early access to a powerful new weapon right from the get-go, making combat easier compared to your initial playthrough.

Chainsaw

In New Game Plus, the standout unlockable item might be the Chainsaw, serving as an ideal melee weapon. You’ll find this powerful one-shot weapon tucked inside a wooden log, situated diagonally opposite the Silent Hill Ranch sign, on the right side of your path.

New Items

In New Game Plus, a majority of the new items you can find are connected to uncovering the unique and humorous endings, not just the standard ones.

  • Key of Sorrow

In this situation, having a chainsaw proves useful since you’ll need it to break through the rear window of a green car parked on Wiltse Road. The vehicle is situated past a metal gate enclosure, accessible via a short passageway off Nathan Avenue. Obtaining the Key of Sorrow unlocks one of the two fresh endings.

  • Rusted Key

This key is lying inside a safe fixed into the shoe rack behind the counter at Pete’s Bowl-O-Rama, in the west side of South Vale. The combination code is 1887 on Hard difficulty.

  • Cryptic Letter

Alongside the Rusted Key in the safe is this Memo.

  • Small Chest

right here, on a park bench enclosed by a gazebo within Brookhaven Hospital’s Garden, you’ll find a miniature lockbox that’s out in the open. By using the old, rusty key found earlier, you can open this small chest and obtain a bottle of White Claudia. Consuming this item will then unlock one of the two fresh endings available.

Check out the video guide provided for instructions on how to acquire the Rusty Key, Secret Note, and Mini Chest.

  • Broken Key Part #1

Obtain the initial segment of a key from The Pet Center, which is situated on Neely Street, just beside Big Jay’s, in the eastern area of South Vale.

  • Broken Key Part #2

Obtain the second segment of a key hidden in the doghouse of a residence on Katz Street, situated southwest of Baldwin Mansion. To locate it, stand facing north, then starting from the leftmost house, count your way through the houses until you reach one with a small gate bearing a bone symbol. Gather both parts to assemble the Dog Key and unveil the New Game Plus-exclusive humorous conclusion.

Refer the video guide below to see how you can get both broken key parts.

  • Blue Gem

Find the Blue Gem at the jeweler’s shop, located next to The Pet Center on the eastern side of South Vale. Break the window on the left to retrieve the Blue Gem from the open box inside. Utilize this gem at several spots to uncover a unique New Game Plus joke ending.

  • Crimson Ceremony

In the ending known as Rebirth, locate a distinctive item near the graveyard situated in South Vale, not far from the northern coastline. Close by, you’ll find a tree with two gravestones. The book you’re searching for is easily spotted at the base of the right-hand headstone.

  • White Chrism

In the western part of South Vale, specifically at the Baldwin Mansion’s entrance, you’ll spot a conspicuous vial resting on a table alongside two candle holders. This item is unique to the Rebirth ending.

  • Obsidian Goblet

In the room with the painting, within the Silent Hill Historical Society on the western side of South Vale, there lies an intricate cup conspicuously placed in a recessed shelf.

  • Lost Memories

As a gamer, I’d describe it like this: In the first floor of the LakeView Hotel, hidden within the Lost & Found room, you’ll find a book conspicuously placed on a table after you manage to squeeze through the narrow opening. It’s crucial to remember to save your game just before grabbing this item, as collecting it alongside the three items I’ve mentioned earlier will lead you to the Rebirth ending at the end of your gaming session.

Check out the video tutorial provided for guidance on obtaining Crimson Ceremony, Obsidian Goblet, Lost Memories, and White Chrism.

  • Various Books

A variety of books that offer insights into solving different game endings can be found dispersed throughout town, with a concentration at the local bookstore and additional spots elsewhere. These books often serve as general guides.

Those are all the new unlockable collectibles in Silent Hill 2 Remake.
