As a die-hard fan who has watched “I Know What You Did Last Summer” more times than I can count, it’s a bittersweet feeling to know that Sarah Michelle Gellar won’t be reprising her role as Helen Shivers in the upcoming reboot. However, knowing that her best friend, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, is directing the project gives me a glimmer of hope. I can almost picture Sarah in the background, whispering advice and ensuring continuity, like some supernatural spirit guiding the production.
Sarah Michelle Gellar’s plans for next summer do not involve reviving her character.
After the unveiling of the remake of “I Know What You Did Last Summer“, fans are curious to know if the actress will once again portray the character of beauty queen Helen Shivers.
But Sarah made it clear that it wouldn’t be in the cards, simply telling People, “I am dead.”
To clarify, towards the end of the 1997 movie, Helen met her tragic end after becoming the killer’s hook victim. However, the actress from “Cruel Intentions” won’t be directly involved in the reboot, but she does have a connection to it somehow.
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is the one in charge of directing it, and we often tease that I’ve got an informal role. Essentially, I serve as a continuity check for her, always reminding her about what would or wouldn’t be likely with the characters, so in a sense, I unofficially have a job title.” (Paraphrased from the original quote)
In the movie titled “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” inspired by the horror novel, Sarah, along with her husband Freddie Prinze Jr., Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Ryan Phillippe played four teenagers who fled the site of a tragic incident. However, they soon faced the chilling repercussions as someone who had seen their crime began to haunt them.
So far, Freddie is the only original actor confirmed to return, according to Deadline.
Indeed, after the initial movie’s triumph, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer indeed reprised their roles in the subsequent installment titled “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer“.
As reported by Deadline, the upcoming reboot is set to feature actors such as Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Hauer-King.
The specific reason behind the remake’s launch isn’t known at this point, but it’s expected to hit the screens in July 2025.
