Following a prolonged break from “Today” in February 2023 due to an unexpected medical emergency with her 5-year-old daughter that kept her in the ICU, Hoda is now providing an update about Hope’s current health status.
In an interview with People magazine published on October 9th, the NBC News anchor, mother of 7-year-old Haley, expressed that they’re in a positive phase where Hope is flourishing. She shared that her daughter is making progress, and while they’re keeping a close eye on her, she believes the situation will become clearer with time. They’re already noticing significant improvements, and she added that they have exceptional care and support. In essence, Haley seems to be finding her balance.
By late February 2023, Hoda, aged 60, was missing from Today. Her co-anchors shared that she was handling a personal health issue concerning her family. After being away for several weeks, Hoda returned on March 6 and disclosed that Hope, who was then 3 years old, had spent more than a week in the hospital.
That particular experience significantly shaped her choice to relinquish her full-time role at NBC’s Today at the beginning of the upcoming year. This decision was made public a month ago.
As a passionate devotee, I must share that for quite some time, I’ve been grappling with an inner urge, a sensation not unlike when something or someone tugs at your heartstrings. Speaking candidly, I find myself contemplating whether to follow this impulse or resist it and remain in my comfort zone, choosing safety over the unknown. This is how I described my feelings during my conversation with People.
She went on to say, “It seems wiser for me to remain at NBC. I’m financially stable and have job security there. Frankly, it’s hard to imagine a reason not to do so. However, I’ve been taking care of my children lately, and I started wondering if perhaps there might be something else I’m overlooking?
But it came down to wanting to make a change for her daughters.
As a lifestyle expert, let me share my perspective: “Reflecting on the new decade ahead, I felt a strong desire for change. It’s like holding a pie, understanding that each slice represents my time, and pondering how to allocate it wisely. I yearned for this distribution to be richer with experiences that truly matter to me.
And the journalist wanted to find a balance that she couldn’t have as a full-time working mom.
She pointed out that there’s a burden of feeling unable to fully commit to both work and personal life. Achieving greatness in one area often means sacrificing something in the other. If you aspire for excellence at work, you may need to compromise on your home responsibilities. Similarly, if you aim for exceptional performance at home, it might mean less focus on your professional duties. It’s challenging to maintain a perfect balance; it’s usually one or the other.
