Will there be a Ted Lasso season 4?

As a diehard fan of Ted Lasso, I must say it feels like we’re navigating through the beautiful twists and turns of AFC Richmond, just as much as our beloved coach himself. The news about Phil Dunster not returning for a main cast role in season 4 is a bittersweet pill to swallow, but hey, even the mighty Ted Lasso has had his fair share of setbacks, remember when he was coaching a little-known soccer team in America?

For some time now, it’s felt like the heartfelt third season of Ted Lasso might be the last we see, with the series seemingly wrapping up, at least in its present form, more than a year ago.

Since Jason Sudeikis’s character departed London for the U.S. to coach his son Henry’s soccer team, it appeared that if the story were to carry on in some way, it would likely take shape as a separate series, concentrating on the show’s secondary characters as they navigated their lives at Richmond AFC without Ted.

It appears that initial assumptions may have been incorrect, as recent reports indicate that the popular Apple TV+ comedy is set to continue with a fourth season, featuring Bill Hader once again leading the cast.

Although specific details remain scarce, it’s clear that actor Nick Mohammed, known for his role as Nathan Shelley on the show, has shown a strong desire to reprise his character. Furthermore, he hinted that he possesses information he is not yet authorized to disclose.

“The odd thing was set up though, so… I’ve got to keep my mouth shut because I keep spoiling things.”

Is it confirmed that Ted Lasso will have a fourth season? Here’s what we can expect from a potential Season 4 or even a new series centered around Ted Lasso (AFC Richmond) in the future.

Although the three-season storyline initially conceived by the show’s creators concluded in season 3, several cast members have hinted at the potential for a new storyline to unfold beyond that point.

Previously, Coach Beard’s collaborator Brendan Hunt mentioned to Consequence that another storyline could potentially unfold after the current one. They’ve always viewed the narrative as a three-part series.

Initially, we had planned to structure the three main parts similar to “The Office,” with six episodes per part, a special episode, and then wrapping up. However, we’ve definitely broadened those sections, but rest assured, this doesn’t mean that everything will be completely overhauled or discarded.

Moreover, the final episode of season 3, where Ted permanently left Richmond and Roy assumed the role of Richmond’s manager, appears to suggest that a possible spin-off might arise in the future.

The tease came as Ted suggested that Trent Crimm change the title of his book about the club and Ted’s management.

Ted gave Trent a big thumbs up, saying ‘Fantastic work, Trent! I really enjoyed it!’ He added one small piece of advice though: ‘I’d suggest you modify the title. It doesn’t concern me. It never did.’ Ted then suggested the new title, The Richmond Way.” This way, the message is conveyed clearly and smoothly.

It appeared as though they were hinting that if the series persisted, it might no longer bear the name Ted Lasso, instead opting for titles such as The Richmond Way or just AFC Richmond.

It’s consistent with what Jason Sudeikis, the vocal star and co-creator of Ted Lasso, had stated earlier that Season 3 would be the conclusion to the narrative they intended to present since the beginning.

He said earlier this year that this is the end of the story we wanted to tell, a story we were excited to tell, a story we enjoyed telling. It’s nice to know people want more, even about things they don’t yet know – like season 3 – and it’s flattering.]

By May 31st, when all 12 episodes of the season have been released, they might think, ‘We understand now, we’re satisfied. We don’t need any more; we’ve got enough.’ However, until then, I’ll enjoy and appreciate the eagerness that goes beyond what has already been revealed.

Yet, by August 2024, everything appeared to shift, with whispers spreading that not just the show was coming back, but also the return of Sudeikis.

In truth, Bill Lawrence, one of the creators, has hinted that Sudeikis’s participation was crucial for the show to keep going. He expressed this sentiment to Collider, stating, “As fans, we’d all be thrilled if it resumed. But everyone would say the same thing: whatever Jason feels like doing and whatever his decision is, we’re all on board with it.

He not only takes center stage, but he’s the chief scriptwriter as well. Moreover, his life is undergoing a significant transformation, with a move to a foreign land and raising children. It’s a major shift. As a supporter, I would be ecstatically anxious if someone suggested it might happen again. As a companion, I am supportive of whatever decisions he makes.

As of now, there’s no formal announcement about it, leaving me in suspense about whether my favorite series will continue with a fourth season. I’ll be sure to keep an eye on updates and share any confirmed news here, so stay tuned!
