As a lifestyle expert who has been immersed in the world of entertainment for decades, I can attest that Nicholas Pryor was a true gem in Hollywood. With over 170 acting credits to his name, he left an indelible mark on the industry and countless fans.

Hollywood has lost a father figure.

89-year-old actor Nicholas Pryor, who famously portrayed Tom Cruise’s father in ‘Risky Business’, Robert Downey Jr.’s estranged dad in ‘Less Than Zero’, and the parent of Kathleen Robertson in ‘Beverly Hills, 90210‘, passed away from cancer on October 7 at his home in North Carolina. His wife, Christine Belford, confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter.

In a hand-written letter sent after his death, Pryor expressed deep gratitude for having spent almost 70 years as an active actor.

Indubitably, Pryor’s acting career extended over several decades, commencing in the 1970s with appearances in “Smile” and “The Gumball Rally.

In the vibrant ’80s, I graced some of the decade’s most iconic films like “Airplane!”, “Risky Business”, and “Less Than Zero”. Then, I found a lasting home on the small screen, playing a recurring character on “Beverly Hills, 90210” from 1994 to 1997.

In the realm of character acting, Pryor appeared in numerous soap operas such as “The Secret Storm,” “The Edge of Night,” “Love Is a Many Splendored Thing,” “All My Children,” and “Another World.” Yet, it was his portrayal of Victor Collins on the spinoff series “Port Charles” from 1997 to 2002 that truly made him stand out in the soap opera world.

Following Pryor’s passing, Jon Lindstrom, his on-screen son, characterized him as a highly skilled actor and an exceptional friend.

In his Instagram post dated October 8th, Lindstrom expressed that it was one of the best experiences he’s ever had. He described him as not only a mentor but also someone to bounce ideas off, someone trustworthy to confide in, and even more than just an on-screen father, serving as a guiding figure beyond their roles in General Hospital and Port Charles.

Speaking from personal experience, Pryor was undeniably one of the most hilarious individuals I’ve had the pleasure to share a bottle of fine wine and delicious meal with. As I bid him farewell, my heart aches knowing his absence will be deeply felt, not just by me, but also by his loving wife, Christina, their daughter Stacey, and his cherished grandchildren, Gus and Avril. Rest in peace, Richard.

Throughout his professional journey, Pryor amassed more than 170 acting roles. More recently, he graced the screens of television shows like “Hart of Dixie,” “Nashville,” and “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” in addition to movies such as “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” and “Doctor Sleep.

As I pen my heartfelt tribute, I can’t help but marvel at the extraordinary company I kept on screen – the legendary Jack Nicholson, the charismatic Kurt Russell, and the supremely talented Ewan McGregor. There were so many more, it’s almost impossible to list them all!

Speaking of Pryor, Lindstrom said he was “one of the funniest individuals you’d ever want to share a bottle of fine wine and delicious meal with.” He also mentioned that his former co-star would be deeply missed by not only him but also by his beloved wife Christina, their daughter Stacey, and their grandchildren Gus and Avril. Rest in Peace.
