As someone who has been following Shrinking since its inception, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the return of this heartwarming and hilarious Apple TV+ comedy-drama! The first season was a rollercoaster ride filled with raw emotions, unexpected twists, and a stellar cast led by the brilliant Jason Segel and Harrison Ford.
We haven’t chatted with Jason Segel’s character Jimmy and the others from the Apple TV+ comedy-drama Shrinking in quite a while, but now we’re excited because the show is back for its eagerly awaited second season!
In the upcoming season, we’ll continue the story with Jimmy and Harrison Ford’s character, Paul, along with their group, as they grapple with the consequences of Jimmy’s experimental treatment. The shocking turn of events from last season, where one of Jimmy’s patients pushed their abusive boyfriend off a cliff following the therapy, will be a significant part of the narrative.
The story mainly focuses on Jimmy and his daughter, Alice, as they navigate their mourning process after the passing of Alice’s mom, Tia.
In addition to Segel, the series is also the creation of Bill Lawrence, a co-creator of Ted Lasso, as well as Brett Goldstein, one of its stars. However, fans are eagerly waiting for when they can watch the upcoming 12-episode season.

Will there be a second season of Shrinking?
There will!
On Thursday, 9th March 2023, it was announced that the series “Shrinking” has been granted a second season. Matt Cherniss, who oversees programming at Apple TV+, expressed his delight saying: “Ever since we first stepped into the heartwarming, comedic universe of ‘Shrink’, we’ve been captivated. It’s been truly rewarding to see audiences globally resonate with these charming characters.
“We can’t wait for viewers to experience what the cast and creative team have for season 2.”
He mentioned: “We’re actively working on it right now. We are aware of the beginning and end points for this year and the next one. I believe that by the end of this year, people will feel a sense of accomplishment but also be certain that the event isn’t finished yet.
The ending has an unexpected twist, sort of a surprise element for this season finale. After these next two years, the joy lies in continuing if we’re fortunate enough and everyone is on board. If Harrison isn’t off on his private plane to some distant location at that moment, we plan to carry on indefinitely – it’s just a lot of fun.
In an interview with Variety in March 2023, it appears that Lawrence hinted at a potential end date for the series.
He said: “Part of the fun for me in doing shows with, like, Jason Segel and Harrison Ford, is that you can tell actors that you’ve always wanted to work with, ‘If you give me three seasons, that’s fine if you want to split.’
“So all I can tell you is that all the gang that we roped in for this one was down for doing that.
“The second year is about forgiveness, and the third year is about moving forward.”
When will Shrinking season 2 be released?
Starting from this coming Wednesday, 16th October, Season 2 of “Shrinking” will begin premiering its fresh episodes exclusively on Apple TV+. On that same day, you’ll be able to watch the first two exciting installments.
Every week, new episodes will be streaming until the season finale airs on December 25th, 2024.
2023 strikes resulted in a few setbacks, causing the new season to premiere approximately two years following the initial debut of the first season.
In simple terms, the dramatic ending of the first season left Heidi Gardner’s character, Grace, in a precarious situation after she pushed her abusive boyfriend off a cliff during a hike. This action is expected to lead to significant repercussions in season 2.
Shrinking cast: Who will be back for season 2?
In the second season of “Shrinking,” both Jason Segel and Harrison Ford are set to reprise their roles, along with other supporting actors like Lukita Maxwell, Christa Miller, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, and undeniably, following that dramatic ending, Heidi Gardner will also return.
Additionally, Ted McGinley is coming back, and his role as Derek will now be a key character. Furthermore, it’s confirmed that we’ll introduce some fresh faces to the show, with Ashley Nicole Black and co-creator Brett Goldstein joining the cast.
In addition to acting in the series, Black has taken on a writing role for season 2 as well. As for Goldstein, details about his new position are being kept confidential at this time.
As a dedicated cinephile, I was unable to grace the screens in Shrinking’s first season due to my commitments on the set of Ted Lasso’s third season, which were ongoing during filming.
