Football Manager 25 Delayed to March 2025

As a dedicated Football Manager fan with years of virtual football management under my belt, I must admit that I was initially taken aback by the delay in the release of Football Manager 25. However, after reflecting on Sports Interactive’s decision, I wholeheartedly support their stance.

Instead of sticking rigidly to its usual yearly schedule, this time around, the Football Manager series, jointly developed by Sports Interactive and Sega, is deviating slightly from tradition. The announcement of Football Manager 25 promises a significant visual and technical overhaul compared to previous versions, due to an engine change. Originally scheduled for release in November, there has been an official announcement of a delay in the launch date for this highly anticipated game.

Following discussions about the challenges encountered during the creation of “Football Manager 25”, Sports Interactive clarified in their delay notice that they’ve chosen to spend extra time perfecting the game to meet its desired quality standard, rather than releasing it in November as initially planned. The revised release date is now set for March next year.

The development process for our studio has been challenging due to unexpected delays. We’ve found that things are progressing more slowly than we initially anticipated, even though everyone on the team is putting in an extraordinary effort. As some of your recent comments have noted, we were pushing ourselves too hard and risked sacrificing our standard quality of work. This has created a significant amount of stress for all members of the studio who are dedicated to producing the best game they can.

The significant upgrade in technology and aesthetics that is FM25 marks a milestone in the series for many years. To maintain the integrity of this important phase in Football Manager’s timeline, we can’t afford to rush its launch in November.

Indeed, we didn’t anticipate finding ourselves in this situation seven weeks after our planned release. However, staying true to our studio principles, we focus on the broader context. In this case, the broader perspective suggests that we require extra time to create a game that we can all take pride in.

Sports Interactive has confirmed that there will still be early access for Football Manager 25, despite the delay, and they are optimistic about the length of this phase. Moreover, they have postponed the scheduled gameplay unveiling until January.

For the very first time, the Football Manager series will not adhere to its yearly launch tradition. It’ll be intriguing to observe any potential changes in the series’ release pattern as a result of this shift.

In March, Football Manager 25 will be playable on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, iPhone/iOS devices, Android phones, and Nintendo Switch.
