Curfew star Alexandra Burke asked for distressing scene to be cut

As a cinema devotee with a keen eye for authenticity and character development, I must admit that Alexandra Burke’s portrayal of Helen in Curfew has truly captivated me. Her dedication to the role, even refusing to film certain scenes due to their dark nature, speaks volumes about her commitment to artistry.

Curfew star Alexandra Burke has admitted that some scenes were so dark, she refused to film them.

In the Paramount Plus series, the former X Factor winner, who gained prominence in 2008, portrays Helen, a high school teacher. In this fictional universe, a recently enacted Women’s Safety Act is in place, requiring men to wear electronic tags and stay at home from 7pm to 7am daily.

In the role of a dedicated movie buff, I’d rephrase it like this: When a tragic discovery of a slain woman is made outside the Women’s Safety Center beyond curfew hours, it falls upon me, DI Pamela Green (Sarah Parish), to unravel this chilling mystery. I am convinced that a man lies at the heart of this heinous crime.

She shared with us: “I recall reading it and discovering something intriguing about Helen, which I’d rather not disclose. But finding out that detail made me realize, ‘Wow, this will undoubtedly be the most demanding part I’ve ever played.’

After receiving the role, Burke discovered that it required more than she initially realized. She then admitted, “They provided me with additional details about Helen, and I thought, ‘There are certain aspects I’m not sure I can pull off.’

I needed to discuss the issue with the producer as I felt uneasy about it, saying, “It seems inappropriate for me to participate given my moral standards, and I believe it’s not suitable for television broadcast.

They concurred, then produced an item. I exclaimed, ‘Thank you, as I’m not sure I could pull off that role.’ Given that you’ve already filmed some scenes with me, the agreement is now finalized!

Even though she declined, Burke commended Joasia Goldyn for her willingness to make adjustments and the conducive collaborative atmosphere fostered in private settings.

She commented, ‘It was quite intriguing that you were able to share your ideas here and they were actually listened to.’ To my surprise, I hadn’t realized such open dialogue was possible.

For Helen, Sarah’s closest companion (portrayed by Mandip Gill from Doctor Who), it often falls on her to handle disgruntled students in her classroom who are frequently testing the boundaries set by the governing authority.

She’s told to teach her pupils about the advantages of the curfew regulations, yet since she isn’t fully convinced by the policy herself, putting this into practice can be more challenging than simply stating it.

As a teacher, she finds it challenging to express this viewpoint to the students because she feels that while there are aspects where it works, there are also areas where it falls short,” Burke explained.

However, what are the words to express this sentiment? It seems she must support it unconditionally, not based on her feelings, but rather due to being both a teacher and a woman.
