One Piece announces extended hiatus – new episodes won’t air until 2025

As an ardent anime aficionado with over three decades of dedication to the realm of Japanese animation, I must admit that the news about One Piece taking a six-month hiatus has sent a shiver down my spine. However, I’ve been through similar situations before – Dragon Ball Z’s infamous “Time Chamber” episodes come to mind – and I’ve learned to appreciate these breaks as opportunities for creators to rejuvenate their creative energies.

For the next six months, the makers of One Piece are planning to step back from production to rejuvenate themselves, after which they’ll resume the Egghead storyline.

As a die-hard anime fan, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! The incredible journey we’ve been on with this series is taking a brief hiatus after episode 1,122. But fear not, fellow enthusiasts, we’ll be back in April 2025, ready to unveil a fresh wave of episodes that will undoubtedly keep us all hooked!

While eagerly anticipating the manga’s comeback on screen, fans can instead tune in each week to catch up with the One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island saga.

According to Crunchyroll, a revised and condensed version of the original story, consisting of 21 episodes, will showcase Fish-Man Island with updated graphics for modern aesthetics. They have also announced their intention to broadcast these episodes simultaneously as they are released in Japan.

Beginning on Sunday 27th October, the Straw Hats will reunite at Sabaody.

The much-anticipated day has come: the Straw Hat crew has returned to Sabaody Archipelago following a tough two years apart. They find themselves back at the spot where they previously encountered defeat against the Pacifista. However, now, they exhibit greater strength and are eager to embark on their voyage towards the New World. With the Thousand Sunny now capable of submerging, their next destination is the Fish-Man Island.

Not only is there something fresh about it, but the Fish-Man Island saga will also boast revamped opening and closing songs. The opening theme will even feature a “special collaboration” from a notable guest artist.

On Sunday, 20th October, there’s a unique 25th anniversary episode set to broadcast. This special tribute will celebrate the lasting impact of “One Piece” through a 30-minute gathering, showcasing “the get-together of the Straw Hat crew as seen by non-pirate characters.” The event unfolds post the Summit War at the Sabaody Archipelago.
