Daisy May Cooper: ‘I received a paranormal visit from late This Country co-star’

As a fervent supporter of Daisy May Cooper, I am captivated by her extraordinary life experiences and the unique perspective she brings to the table. Her latest venture, Hexy Bitch, delves deep into the realm of the paranormal, a subject that has intrigued her since her childhood. The untimely death of her dear friend, Michael Sleggs, and his promise to return from the afterlife, adds an undeniable poignancy to her journey.

As I recount this chilling experience, let me share with you an incident that occurred a mere month ago. Prior to this unsettling event, our bedroom had been a sanctuary of tranquility, but one night, the very stillness was shattered as my duvet mysteriously drifted off the bed. The knocking on the door that ensued was unlike anything we’d ever experienced – a rhythmic pattern that instantly caught our attention. My partner and I exchanged nervous glances, our eyes mirroring the same bewilderment and unease.

Discussion focuses on extraordinary events (paranormal experiences) as depicted in Cooper’s book, Hexy Bitch: Tales from My Life, the Afterlife and Beyond. In addition to this topic, we delve into the unfortunate demise of her friend, Michael Sleggs, aged 33, who was a co-star on This Country under the screen name “Slugs.

She’s confident that it was indeed him, as she remarks. If anyone were to return and confirm the existence of something beyond death, it would undoubtedly be him, given his unique circumstances, she implies.

He swore that an angel had appeared to him in his hospital bed, assuring him that within a week, he’d be given a new body by midnight. Exactly at 11:59pm on the seventh day, he passed away. “I made him swear he’d return, and he would undoubtedly keep his word because it would scare me witless and he’d find that amusing,” is one way to rephrase the sentence.

In recent celebrity memoirs, the comical aspect of handling grief and loss hasn’t been fully explored. However, in Cooper’s case, it might be a genuine reflection of her lifelong fascination with the mysterious, which began when she was just four years old and her aunt passed away in a car accident.

She writes in the book: “When Auntie Alison died, Granny seemed to cross over into another realm. Mum did too… It was this family tragedy that set Mum and Granny on a never-ending quest to find Alison.”

They took Daisy along with them to spiritualist church gatherings, the secluded areas behind pubs, and on occasion, private sessions with freelance psychics. As she reflects now, “In essence, they were profiting from people’s sorrow.” She acknowledges that it was evident to her back then that they were exploiting people, but perhaps it provided a glimmer of hope where there was none.

In Hexy Bitch, there’s a blend of sweet and bitter feelings, and a constant struggle with the unknown and the unverifiable. However, according to Cooper, it’s crucial to approach life with an open and receptive attitude.

Occasionally, individuals encounter events they can’t rationalize – for instance, during my school days while investigating a project on a renowned ghost in the Cotswolds around Halloween. This woman we encountered provided us with palm readings. She predicted that I would achieve fame as an actress.

Maybe that’s when she started to realize there could be a life beyond the ordinary for her? She chuckles. “Too bad she didn’t warn me about how challenging it would turn out to be.

Predicted for success, Cooper started interacting on social media with individuals from what she terms the “inquisitive about paranormal” group, offering assistance on a project called Hexy Bitch. The responses ranged in credibility, reaching an intriguing (or confusing, depending on your point of view) level when a man in his 80s claimed he was having an affair with Jackie Kennedy. He added that they had been together in a past life and she once knocked on his door to inform him he hadn’t locked it securely.

Similarly to Danny Robins’s Radio 4 show Uncanny exploring people’s encounters with the undead, our aim is to gather individuals who have intriguing tales to share but are hesitant due to potential criticism. If this is the reason behind writing the book, the spark that ignited it was a ghostly apparition that appeared to her while she was sleeping next to her young son some years ago.

She remembers it vividly – the legs, only the legs clad in PE shorts, belonging to a young boy who darted around her bedroom. It seemed incredibly real, substantial even, yet it dissolved just as quickly, leaving behind a sense of tranquility.

In her life, there have been a number of mysterious occurrences. For instance, in 2019 while she was hospitalized, she heard a woman’s voice telling her “Don’t be afraid” and got this message permanently inked on her wrist. Moreover, last year she was invited to spend a night at her house for the production of The Haunting of Daisy May Cooper, an Uncanny Christmas special.

Since Cooper relocated, an odd sound at her new bedroom door now puzzles her. Once more, she firmly asserts that it’s a message from Slugs, as he had vowed. “It’s most definitely a sign from Slugs,” she reiterates.

It’s possible that now would be a good moment to clarify something unusual in my journalistic experience. Specifically, during our conversation following her sharing the recording saying “Don’t be afraid”, the interview somehow vanished or got erased at some point. Although likely a technical issue, it was still quite unsettling.

Daisy May Cooper’s show, titled “Hexy Bitch,” will be aired on the 24th of October this week. You can place your pre-orders right away.
