What’s Ncuti Gatwa’s best Doctor Who look? Have your say

As a cinephile with a soft spot for Doctor Who and a keen eye for fashion, I must say that Ncuti Gatwa’s interpretation of the Doctor has been nothing short of extraordinary. His unique style, coupled with the brilliant work of costume designer Pam Downe, has breathed new life into the TARDIS.

After completing a whole season, it’s clear that Ncuti Gatwa is one of the most fashionably distinctive Doctors ever to travel in the TARDIS on Doctor Who. However, he might debate that Jon Pertwee came close to matching his style.

In each episode, costume designer Pam Downe didn’t skimp on fresh designs, collaborating closely with Gatwa to reflect his distinctive fashion sense.

On Gatwa’s birthday as he turns 32, cast your vote for his most memorable outfit! From the timeless style in “The Church on Ruby Road” to the captivating ’60s vibe in “The Devil’s Chord,” and even the heroic look from “Empire of Death.” Make your choice now!

Previously, Downe mentioned to Doctor Who Magazine that “it’s uncertain if viewers will notice it, but the deep-red velvet of Ncuti’s jacket [in Rogue] is a subtle reference to previous Doctors. I enjoy incorporating small tributes to the past whenever possible.

In a conversation with Rolling Stone, Gatwa expressed his fondness for the Third Doctor’s (Jon Pertwee) stylish attire, admiring the elegant velvet jackets and ruffled shirts he wore.

He added: “I feel a connection to him, our Doctors are the only two who dress like s**ts.”

In response, he added: “When Russell [T Davies] extended the invitation for me to meet everyone, they asked about my preferred costume. I presented them with a Ralph Lauren collection, which was in collaboration with Historically Black Colleges in America. I’m really fond of those items; they exude a preppy style that is also distinctly Black.

As for what season 15 will hold in terms of the Doctor’s glorious new looks? Only time will tell.

This Christmas, the Doctor is coming back to BBC One and BBC iPlayer! If you’d like to catch up on past episodes, they’re already streaming on BBC iPlayer.
