Taskmaster’s Alex Horne explains “mistakes” with spin-off – and why he and Greg Davies would “jump” to do it again

Taskmaster’s Alex Horne explains “mistakes” with spin-off – and why he and Greg Davies would “jump” to do it again

As a devoted fan of Taskmaster, I have witnessed its triumphant rise and occasional stumbles across various continents. The short-lived US version left me yearning for more, much like how a starving man craves a second slice of pizza. Alex Horne’s recent revelations about the missteps during the adaptation process only serve to whet my appetite for another crack at the American market.

According to Alex Horne, the creator of Taskmaster, he’s shared insights into the issues faced by the short-lived American adaptation of the show, while also expressing enthusiasm for future attempts to break through in the United States.

In this Channel 4 entertainment series, based on the well-known format, Alex Horne acts as an assistant to Greg Davies‘s character, The Taskmaster. He assigns a team of comedians with unconventional tasks, allowing them to find their own creative ways to complete each task.

The program has expanded globally, now airing locally in various countries such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Spain, Sweden, Norway, and Portugal.

Unfortunately, the American version featuring Horne and musician Reggie Watts was canceled following its first season. In a recent interview with TopMob, Horne admitted that some errors occurred during the transition phase of the production.

According to Horne, we followed most of the instructions given by the channel, which resulted in cutting the duration of the show in half. The entire show ran for 22 minutes. Since we wanted to be cautious, all the tasks we performed were ones we’d already completed before.

Although we had to make some adjustments that we’re not entirely happy with, given the opportunity, Greg and I would love to repeat the experience in America, this time under our preferred conditions.

During a brief span, the U.S. version drew in some well-known figures, featuring Freddie Highmore from Bates Motel and The Good Doctor, Kate Berlant of Search Party, Ron Funches, the voice actor from Trolls, comedian Lisa Lampanelli, and DJ Dillon Francis.

Horner pondered over the past history of Taskmaster spin-offs, as a significant fresh installment, titled Junior Taskmaster, is about to premiere on Channel 4.

In this role, I’m thrilled to be part of a unique educational journey where we, the kids, get to dive into the wacky tasks that have left our elders scratching their heads. This new program is an extension of the wisdom sown by Taskmaster Education, which cleverly integrates elements from the show into curriculum-focused learning, making education more entertaining and engaging for us!

In this new season, Horne steps down as the main host for Taskmaster, passing the leadership role to Rose Matafeo and Mike Wozniak. He’s keeping quiet about whether the series might grow any larger in the future.

As a dedicated enthusiast, I’m excited to share that we recently conducted a trial for Foodmaster. We’ve tossed around ideas like Dogmaster and Carmaster, but for now, I believe we’re content with our current lineup. There’s always the risk of watering down the quality, you see. At the moment, Junior and Senior are the stars in our world!
