David Suchet on getting to understand Agatha Christie and what Poirot movie he’d like to do

As a movie aficionado who has spent countless hours immersed in the captivating world of Agatha Christie and her iconic detective Hercule Poirot, brought to life so magnificently by Sir David Suchet, I eagerly await the upcoming documentary series “Travels with Agatha with Sir David Suchet.

David Suchet, the actor known for portraying the famous detective Hercule Poirot in 70 adaptations of Agatha Christie’s work, is set to appear in a new documentary titled “Travels with Agatha.” This five-part series will be broadcast on Channel 4 in the UK.

The travelogue series sees Suchet visiting Australia, Canada, Hawaii, New Zealand and South Africa, retracing a journey Christie went on at the start of her career.

Looking forward to the upcoming documentary, Suchet recently spoke with Deadline about his journey – hinting that there might be a possibility for him to reprise his role as Poirot once again.

In 2013, I decided to only take on Poirot roles based on Agatha Christie’s works, as I had completed all of them at that point. However, I publicly expressed my interest in portraying the character in a feature film.

If I were the filmmaker, the movie I’d have loved to bring to life might not be the one everyone expected, given its source material isn’t one of her best-known books. Yet, among all her works, it’s ‘The ABC Murders’ that holds a special place in my heart, as it’s an absolutely captivating tale.

Previously, Suchet appeared on television in a movie based on The ABC Murders, which was broadcast during the fourth season of Agatha Christie’s Poirot series in 1992.

Suchet additionally discussed discovering Christie on a deeper level as a multidimensional person during his journeys, which he considered an unanticipated treasure.

He shared insights about a vibrant young woman, an ardent surfer and sociable individual, who, upon publishing her initial tales, was open to granting media interviews, as he clarified.

“She was lively and full of energy. While sailing, she openly documented in her diary that she stayed up late into the night with one of the ship’s officers. The Agatha Christie novel I was reading during my trip brought me joy. She had a playful demeanor. I wish I could have met her.

Because Suchet initially portrayed Poirot, the character has since been interpreted by Kenneth Branagh, who has thus far appeared in and directed three movies centered around the sleuth.

Travels with Agatha with Sir David Suchet will air on Channel 4 in the UK.
