Tell Me Lies boss addresses dramatic finale – says Tom Ellis won’t return for season 3

As a woman who has navigated her fair share of complex relationships and heartbreaks, I found the second season of Tell Me Lies to be a gripping portrayal of love, betrayal, and the resilience of the human spirit. The finale was nothing short of dramatic, leaving me on the edge of my seat with the unexpected twists and turns.

The final episode of Season 2 for the show “Tell Me Lies” has wrapped up, as the climax unfolded with Bree and Oliver’s secret romance reaching a dramatic turning point when she learned that his wife, Marianne, knew about their affair throughout its duration.

Show creator and executive producer Meaghan Oppenheimer has now spoken about the big twists and turns in the finale, and has spoken about Lucifer and Miranda star Tom Ellis’s future on the programme, revealing he’s unlikely to return for a potential season 3.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but share some insights about Ellis’ potential return. When asked about this matter by Variety, creator J.J. Oppenheimer expressed his doubts: “I doubt it. Tom seemed keen on doing just one season. In my view, we concluded his storyline in a way that felt satisfying to me. I’m at a loss as to where else we could go with him after that.

There’s a possibility we might reintroduce Marianne as there’s still much of her story left untold. However, after seeing how damaged and empty Oliver became at the end of the season, I feel it may be time for Bree to move on from him.

One key motivation for me to participate in the show initially was to challenge the misconception that it’s only naive or feeble-minded women who fall prey to manipulative narcissists and harmful individuals. The belief that only foolish women can be blinded by love is a stereotype that needs to be shattered, as even the strongest among us can find themselves in such situations.

Speaking as a film enthusiast, I find myself reflecting on the resilient and remarkable females I’ve encountered. Interestingly enough, they all share one common vulnerability – romantic entanglements or men. There’s an undeniable tender quality to their longing for affection that often causes them to momentarily lose sight of themselves. It’s baffling how the yearning to be cherished can cloud our perception and identity.

The finale also ended on a major cliffhanger, when Stephen sent a recording to Bree on her wedding day, which saw Evan confessing to cheating on her with Lucy back in college.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Oppenheimer admitted that the twist in question wasn’t initially part of her plans since season 1, but rather, it was conceived during the early stages of brainstorming for season 2.

Regarding the possibility of witnessing the consequences of this current situation in a potential third season, she expressed: “I believe it’s crucial that we do so. In my mind, it feels like the recurring theme of the season has been ‘#SufferingBree’.

She’s recently experienced this. It seems fair that she gets a response, given the immense act of deceit she’s faced.

Tell Me Lies is available to stream on Disney Plus.
