These heartfelt messages come not only from fans but also those who watched his journey unfold from his initial X Factor audition through his time in the band One Direction and onto his thriving solo career.

Reflecting on Liam Payne’s journey, let’s take a stroll down memory lane, starting from the moment he made his debut on our television screens more than ten years ago.

2008 – Liam Payne auditions for The X Factor

Back in my teenage days, I, a star-struck 14-year-old, made my debut on the stage of The X Factor. There, under the watchful eyes of music industry titans like Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, and the enigmatic Cheryl, I took my first steps towards stardom.

Many consider me a talented singer, and they mention I have ‘the X-Factor’,” he confided in the panel of judges. “However, I’m unsure exactly what that means, and I trust that you understand it better than I do.

He then sung them a rendition of Fly Me to the Moon by Frank Sinatra, and after some back-and-forth between the judges, Liam made it to the Judges’ Houses.

After their performances for Simon Cowell and Sinitta, Cowell asked Liam to leave temporarily and come back in two years.

2010 – Liam Payne auditions for The X Factor a second time

After two years had passed, Liam was now 16 years old and he made another appearance on The X Factor. Just like before, he sang a rendition of Justin Timberlake’s “Cry Me a River” in front of all the judges again.

In that particular year, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik were among those who had tried out. When it came time to choose who to advance, the judges elected to form them into a boy band, a move destined to impact lives significantly.

2010 – One Direction came in third place on The X Factor

Although One Direction was among the most prominent boy bands of their time, they didn’t ultimately secure the victory on The X Factor.

During an exhilarating finale, they shared the stage with Matt Cardle and Rebecca Ferguson – a spectacle that captivated no less than 17 million viewers!

As a cinephile, I must say, though they didn’t win, getting signed by Simon Cowell himself to Syco Entertainment was like scoring the golden ticket to Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory for our group. From that moment on, we just kept climbing, gaining strength and momentum with each passing day.

2011 – One Direction release their first album of five

The first single they released, titled “What Makes You Beautiful,” significantly impacted an entire generation, instantly reaching the top position on UK music charts.

Following that point, they launched their first studio album titled “Up All Night,” which includes songs like “One Thing,” “Moments,” and “Gotta Be You.

In 2015, during the Asian leg of One Direction’s On the Road Again tour, it became known that Zayn Malik was departing from the band.

Towards the end of that year, the group debuted “Drag Me Down” as their initial track from their fifth and last studio album, titled “Made in the AM”.

Liam Payne played a significant role as a songwriter for the group One Direction, and he contributed to writing over half of the songs featured in their third and fourth studio albums, titled “Midnight Memories” and “Four.

Following the release of five studio albums, numerous global concerts, and millions of records sold, the group made public in 2016 that they were going on an open-ended break.

2017 – Liam Payne launches his solo career and releases his first single

After their separation, Liam worked with multiple groups and vocalists as a producer and composer. Later on, he embarked on his own solo journey.

Last October 2016 marked the time when Liam sealed a recording deal with Republic Records. The subsequent year saw him launching his first single, titled “Strip That Down.

He later released Bedroom Floor and Get Low, in which he collaborated with Zedd.

For several years, Liam has teamed up with artists such as Rita Ora, J Balvin, and Alesso on numerous music projects.

In May 2023, Liam revealed he was working on a new album.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, he expressed: “The experience has been great so far, I can’t wait to release it, and yes, I plan to go on tour with this one – something that’s not typical for me, as I wasn’t certain I would tour extensively in the future.

To some extent, I had grown a bit weary, but now I’m genuinely thrilled to hit the road again and meet all the enthusiastic fans. It promises to be an enjoyable experience.

In March 2024, the musician made his comeback to the music scene, releasing a self-penned single titled “Teardrops.” This song was co-written with Jamie Scott and JC Chasez, a former member of *NSYNC.

Talking about what inspired the song, Payne shared (through NME): “Teardrops is about the fragility of heartache and the struggle to move past those difficult times.

“This song marks the start of a new beginning.”
