In July 2021, Rodney Alcala died of natural causes while on death row.

In 1980, Alcala was given a death sentence for the abduction and murder of 12-year-old Robin Samsoe. However, four years later, this verdict was overturned, leading to a fresh trial for him.

In 1986, Alcala received a death sentence for the second time due to Samsoe’s murder, but this verdict was reversed in 2003, leading to a fresh retrial for him.

Subsequently, a match was found between his DNA and samples from other murder scenes, leading to Alcala being charged with the killings of four additional women.

In 2010, Alcala was found guilty on five charges related to first-degree murder, which included the deaths of Samsoe and four additional women, and was subsequently sentenced.

Two years passed, and Alcala was handed over to New York authorities following accusations of murdering two females. He admitted his guilt and received a sentence of 25 years to life as a consequence.

Back in 2016, he faced accusations for the murder of a 28-year-old woman who went missing in 1978. Her body was discovered in 1982.
