Strictly Come Dancing’s Craig Revel Horwood suggests “disqualification” for Pete Wicks

As a long-time Strictly Come Dancing enthusiast and a self-proclaimed ballroom rules purist, I must admit, I was taken aback by Pete Wicks and Jowita Przystał’s performance this week. While their Rumba to Don’t Look Back In Anger was undeniably captivating, the inclusion of an “illegal” lift left me a tad dismayed, much like Craig Revel Horwood when he sees a stray sequin on the dance floor!

This week, Pete Wicks and his partner Jowita Przystał on Strictly Come Dancing surprised Craig Revel Horwood by using a move that was considered off-limits in their performance.

The pair gracefully danced the Rumba to “Don’t Look Back In Anger” by Oasis, causing division among the judges since Craig remained rigid in enforcing the regulations of ballroom dance.

In a firm tone, the judge started off by commenting: “Regarding the lifts, it’s completely against the rules. At certain moments, one foot needs to stay on the ground.

He went on to say, “Indeed, whether a professional chooses to incur deductions for it or not is their decision – and yes, such actions would lead to penalties.

I believe there might be a disqualification, dear, however, I’m not the chief judge. Still, I feel compelled to mention this since I believe it’s important for the rules to be followed.

Upon witnessing the comment, I found myself joining a chorus of dissent along with the judging panel and studio audience. Motsi Mabuse passionately declared that she would never consider disqualifying Wicks in such a manner, and Shirley Ballas, our esteemed head judge, echoed her sentiments, stating emphatically that it was not an option on the table for tonight’s proceedings.

As a film enthusiast, I must admit that the movie did conclude on an optimistic note. However, let me clarify by saying, “Despite its shortcomings, I’m genuinely impressed with your dedication to this project. It’s evident that you’ve poured countless hours into research and practice, striving for excellence.

Despite this, he continued to argue with Shirley over Wick’s “hip movement”, and Wick strongly defended herself, going so far as to bring up the issue again when she rated the couple a 6.

Meanwhile, Craig upheld his promise of deducting points for the illegal move, giving Pete and Jowita a score of only four points, which was quite disheartening.

As a film enthusiast, finding myself ranked third-to-last on the Strictly Come Dancing leaderboard with a total of 22 points, I can’t help but wonder if it will be sufficient to secure my spot for the following week.
