Alec Baldwin Makes Surprise Return to SNL—But Not as Donald Trump

As an ardent fan of Alec Baldwin, it’s always a thrill to witness his versatility unfold on the small screen. His latest appearance on Saturday Night Live as Bret Baier was nothing short of hilarious, and it just goes to show that the man can play any role with panache!

Alec Baldwin is back on Saturday Night Live but not at his old job.

With dark hair, the actor who has portrayed ex-President Donald Trump for years on NBC appeared in the October 19 episode as a caricature of Fox News’ Bret Baier in an opening sketch that humorously mimicked Bret’s recent interview with Vice President Kamala Harris. The role of Kamala was taken by Maya Rudolph, a former cast member who has reprised her part in this recurring skit.

Evening, I’m Brett Baier here, and just to set the record straight, yes, some might say I resemble a Minecraft character dressed as a businessman.

In the conversation, the actor’s on-screen persona consistently breaks in as Baldwin poses the question to Harris: “Can you explain why Americans should cast their votes for you?” To this, Harris simply replies, “I have a strategy.

“What is it?” he asks, and she replies, “Well, I’m trying to tell you.”

In a more conversational manner, Baldwin’s character might say, “I’m really trying to hear you,” to which Rudolph’s Harris responds, “Then maybe it would help if you didn’t speak so much.

“I don’t know how,” he responds, prompting her to tell him, “Just. Just shut your mouth.”

“That was fun, right?” he later declares. “I had fun. We’re out of time. Thanks for joining me.”

In November 2023, Baldwin appeared as a guest on SNL. Notably, he portrayed Trump, who is contesting against Harris in the impending U.S. election, across several episodes from 2016 to 2020. His exceptional performance even earned him an Emmy Award for that role.

Actor James Austin Johnson assumed the role in 2021 and repeated it on the latest episode, which was presided over by Michael Keaton. Notably, Keaton and Baldwin co-starred in the movie “Beetlejuice” from 1988.

In the past three months, Baldwin has made a return to Saturday Night Live following the dismissal, without the possibility of reopening, of his involuntary manslaughter trial linked to the 2021 on-set fatality of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins during the filming of their movie Rust.

In a recent Instagram post on July 13, Baldwin expressed that there are far too many individuals who have shown their support for him, making it impossible to express gratitude at this moment. To each and every one of you, please understand the depth of my appreciation for your compassion extended towards my loved ones.

As a devoted follower, I’m sharing the latest updates about my favorite actor, Alec Baldwin, who’s a proud father of eight. In July, it was revealed that he’ll be starring alongside his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, and their seven children – Carmen (11), Rafael Thomas (9), Leonardo Ángel Charles (8), Romeo Alejandro David (6), Eduardo “Edu” Pao Lucas (4), María Lucía Victoria (3), and Ilaria Catalina Irena (2) – in a reality show on TLC. The series, provisionally named The Baldwins, is expected to air in 2025.
