As a seasoned gamer who has witnessed the evolution of gaming since the days of NES and Super Mario Bros., I must say, it’s fascinating to see Nintendo stepping out of its comfort zone by using external engines like Unreal for their games. It was only a matter of time before we saw Mario and Luigi embark on an adventure powered by Epic Games’ engine!
It’s uncommon for a Nintendo game not to be created using the company’s own development tools, but this has become less unusual in recent times compared to before. An upcoming first-party title appears to have been confirmed as being developed with an external game engine.
As a gamer myself, I’ve got some exciting news to share about the upcoming turn-based RPG “Mario and Luigi: Brothership“. From what I’ve gathered, it appears this game was developed using Unreal Engine. This tidbit comes from a logo of the engine spotted on the back of the game’s physical copy, which was shared by @Nintendeal on Twitter. So, if you’re looking forward to this game as much as I am, you can rest assured that it’s powered by Unreal Engine!
In this scenario, “Mario and Luigi: Brothership” would become the fourth Nintendo game to be created using Epic Games’ engine, following titles such as “Princess Peach: Showtime!” (released earlier this year), “Pikmin 4” (launched last year), and “Yoshi’s Crafted World” (debuted in 2019).
Mario and Luigi: Brothership is due out on November 7 for Nintendo Switch.
