Alan Wake 2’s PS5 Pro Update Will Add Ray Traced Reflections in Performance Mode, Fidelity Improvements in Quality Mode

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the upcoming PS5 Pro upgrade for Alan Wake 2 has me genuinely excited. The implementation of ray tracing in Quality Mode, particularly reflections, is a game-changer and something I’ve been yearning for in this series.

“Alan Wake 2 is one of the initial games that got officially confirmed to run on the PS5 Pro. Recently, the developers at Remedy Entertainment have shared new insights about how they plan to optimize their popular survival horror game for the PS5 Pro when it launches next month.

As a dedicated gamer diving back into the eerie world of Alan Wake, I’m thrilled about the PS5 Pro update. The standout feature here is ray tracing, which will revolutionize reflection effects in the game, marking the first time it’s been implemented on consoles for this title. Running at a smooth 30 FPS, the visuals will be stunningly displayed in 4K, even though the render resolution is actually upsampled from 2176 x 1224. This upgrade promises an even more immersive experience as I continue my journey through the dark woods of Bright Falls.

In Performance Mode, while ray tracing won’t be present, you’ll still notice enhanced visual quality due to PSSR technology. This mode operates at a steady 60 frames per second and displays the game in a 4K resolution, which is higher than the 1440p resolution in the base PS5’s Performance Mode. Interestingly, this higher resolution is achieved by upscaling from an almost identical render resolution as Quality Mode, unlike Performance Mode on a base PS5 where the render resolution is 1536 x 864.

Below, you’ll find some gameplay footage that gives you an idea of how Alan Wake 2 will perform visually and run smoothly on the PlayStation 5 Pro, demonstrating it in both graphics settings.

The sequel to Alan Wake, titled “Alan Wake 2”, can be played on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and personal computers. On October 22, its second expansion will debut, along with a free Anniversary Update, and the physical Deluxe Edition. Interestingly, the PS5 Pro is scheduled to launch on November 7.
