As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that the announcement of Ys 10: Nordics has sent a shiver of anticipation down my spine. Having played through every installment of the series, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia and excitement as I prepare to embark on this new adventure with Adol and his friends.
This week, Falcom’s game “Ys 10: Nordics” will be released for PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Set between “Ys 2: Ancient Ys Finished – The Final Chapter” and “Ys 3: Memories of Celceta”, the narrative follows Adol joining forces with Karja Balta to battle Griegr. The game features a fresh combat system that incorporates Duo Attacks and Skills.
Although it appears ideal for local two-player cooperation, only the PC version will offer this feature at its initial release, according to Peter “Durante” Thoman from PH3. He describes it as an experimental, unofficial addition, self-developed with no financial backing and some daring workarounds. Due to lack of substantial testing, it hasn’t been thoroughly refined yet. Here’s a video demonstration showcasing its current state.
In the course of play, the Cooperative State appears at the upper right corner and can vary from active (where each player manages a character) to impracticable based on the circumstances. Additionally, there are cooperative states for fishing and sailing. During battle, blocking is jointly managed, but achieving a Perfect Block necessitates precise timing from both players.
As a devoted fan, I’m excited about the unique feature in this upcoming game: only one player can control the Gullinboard at a time. If we stray too far from each other, a darker variant of the Mana String appears until we reunite. This intriguing twist on duo combat certainly sets it apart from other games.
