Marvel Studios’ Blade: Release date, cast and latest news

Marvel Studios’ Blade: Release date, cast and latest news

As a seasoned comic book enthusiast and moviegoer with over three decades of witnessing superhero films’ evolution, I must admit that the upcoming reboot of Blade has me intrigued. The original trilogy, starring the charismatic Wesley Snipes, was a game-changer for the genre, and it set a high bar for any follow-up to reach.

As Wesley Snipes quipped in Deadpool & Wolverine that “there’s only ever gonna be one Blade”, many fans didn’t take him seriously at the time – but as more time passes, it seems increasingly likely that Snipes’ interpretation of the character could prove to be accurate.

The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film featuring the character has faced numerous significant problems during pre-production since Mahershala Ali, a two-time Academy Award winner, was initially cast as the main character in 2019 – and these troubles seem to persist without resolution currently.

Initially, Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange were attached to direct the project, but they eventually left their roles. Reports suggest that the script has gone through multiple revisions, and some supporting actors who had initially been cast, such as Aaron Pierre and Delroy Lindo, have subsequently dropped out.

In a manner that stood out in his professional career, Ali’s own attorney characterized the events as “the most absurd thing I have ever encountered”.

It appears there’s a significant update regarding the movie. Originally set to debut in November 2025, its release date has now been postponed indefinitely on the schedule.

So what gives? When might fans finally be able to see Blade? Read on for everything we know so far.

Marvel Studios’ Blade release date speculation

Initially, the film was scheduled to debut in theaters on November 3rd, 2023. However, it ended up being delayed several times, with the release dates shifting from September 6th, 2024, to November 7th, 2025. So, if the original plan had been followed, the film would have come and gone by now.

Currently, there’s no set release date yet and it remains uncertain as to when the release will take place.

Although there were initial announcements suggesting the movie’s filming would start within the following months (as mentioned by Kevin Feige in February 2023), no definite timeline for production has been given yet. Moreover, a director for this project is still to be appointed.

We might not get a chance to watch the movie until around the beginning of 2026, but considering the current situation, it appears overly hopeful that it will be released then.

It might take until 2027 for us to watch Blade, but rest assured, we’ll be vigilantly monitoring for any new developments on this exciting project.

2019’s San Diego Comic-Con marked the initial official unveiling of the movie, with Kevin Feige making the announcement. Onstage with him during this event was none other than star Mahershala Ali.

Who’s in the cast of Blade?

Marvel Studios’ Blade: Release date, cast and latest news

The following cast members have been confirmed for Marvel Studios’ Blade.

  • Mahershala Ali as Blade/Eric Cross Brooks
  • Mia Goth as Lilith

It’s worth mentioning that Mahershala Ali, a two-time Academy Award winner, is set to take on the main character of Blade, a half-vampire who navigates the day and eliminates nightly creatures in the Marvel universe.

Previously, Ali was featured in Netflix’s Marvel series Luke Cage as the antagonist Cottonmouth Stokes and in the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. This suggests that he has a rich background in superhero productions. Moreover, it seems that he played a significant role in initiating the remake of Blade.

After winning his Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Green Book, Ali personally contacted Marvel’s boss Kevin Feige to arrange a meeting, where he proposed the idea of playing the lead role in a new Blade movie.

“When Mahershala calls, you answer,” Feige told the Hollywood Reporter.

It’s been verified that Mia Goth will portray the character of Lilith, a notorious comic book villain. As for who else will be in the film, we’re all left wondering at this point.

In a previous announcement, I was thrilled to learn that Delroy Lindo (from Da 5 Bloods) and Aaron Pierre (of Rebel Ridge) were set to take on mysterious roles in an upcoming project. However, it seems that both have now stepped away from the production, leaving us wondering who might step into their shoes. As of now, no updates have been shared about potential replacements.

We’ll keep you updated when we hear more.

Is there a trailer for the new Blade film?

Since the new Blade movie hasn’t started filming yet, there isn’t any indication of a trailer being released for it.

We will update this article and share the footage as soon as it becomes available.

Wasn’t there a Blade movie before?

Marvel Studios’ Blade: Release date, cast and latest news

Indeed, there were three films featuring Wesley Snipes as the leading vampire hunter from 1998 to 2004. These movies are often cited as having ignited the era of contemporary superhero films that we’re currently experiencing.

The first two films titled Blade and Blade II received much praise from critics, featuring stars like Kris Kristofferson, Stephen Dorff, Donnie Yen, Danny John-Jules, and Donal Logue. However, the third installment, Blade: Trinity, which introduced Ryan Reynolds and Jessica Biel, was less well-received and marked the end of the franchise (except for a 2006 TV revival with a new cast).

Nevertheless, his fans regrettably hoped for his comeback, yet Snipes had earlier granted Ali permission to step into the role instead.

In response to TheWrap, Snipes calmly advised all “DAYWALKERS” who are feeling overwhelmed at this moment, to take it easy and relax.

Despite the unexpected nature of the news, it’s fantastic news indeed! That’s just the unpredictable nature of the ‘entertainment world.’ Sending warm regards to the Marvel Cinematic Universe team – I’ve been a devoted fan all along. Kudos and respect to the legendary Stan, who continues to captivate us with his work.

Bravo and peace be with you, Mahershala Ali – an artist of exceptional beauty and talent whose work I eagerly anticipate enjoying in the future. Here’s hoping that one day our paths cross professionally.

The specifics of the reboot’s storyline remain uncertain, but we can anticipate that Blade’s origins – a character who is half-vampire named Eric Brooks with a mission to annihilate all vampires using his talents and extraordinary powers – will offer a distinct take on the Marvel Cinematic Universe once it eventually debuts.
