Cronos: The New Dawn Opted for Sci-Fi Premise to Distinguish it From Silent Hill 2 Remake

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for horror titles that delve into intricate narratives and innovative gameplay mechanics, I can’t help but feel a rush of anticipation upon learning about Bloober Team’s latest offering, “Cronos: The New Dawn.” Having been captivated by their previous works such as “Observer,” “Layers of Fear,” “Blair Witch,” and “The Medium,” I find it intriguing that the studio has chosen to return to the sci-fi genre.

In a new development, “Cronos: The New Dawn” will be Bloober Team’s upcoming horror game, slated for release in 2025. This title ventures into a post-apocalyptic setting with a twist of time travel. Since their last science fiction project, “Observer,” was released in 2017, one might wonder what prompted this return to the genre. In an interview with IGN, director and designer Wojciech Piejko explained that they wanted to distinguish “Cronos” from the remake of “Silent Hill 2.

In order to avoid similarities with a more realistic narrative, since we were already working on the “Silent Hill” game, we decided to venture into an entirely new realm. We thought, “Let’s explore this, so we need to create a distinct world to prevent repetition.” And that’s how we arrived at the concept of “Cronos”.

Previously, Bloober Team has developed games with down-to-earth settings aside from Silent Hill 2, such as Layers of Fear, Blair Witch, and The Medium. However, their latest creation, Cronos: The New Dawn, takes place in two different eras – the 1980s Poland and its post-apocalyptic remnants, which have been transformed into terrifying entities due to an event known as The Change.

In this scenario, players need to discover and traverse temporal fissures in later stages, journey back to the past, and identify specific characters. With the Harvester tool, they gather these characters’ Essences and convey them forward in time for a mystery objective. The action unfolds from an over-the-shoulder viewpoint, featuring adaptable weapons that can transform.

The upcoming game titled “Cronos: The New Dawn” will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and personal computers. Keep an eye out for additional updates and a deeper look at gameplay until then.
