David Henrie confirms more Russo cameos in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place

As a longtime fan of the magical Russo family from Waverly Place, I must say that the recent news about the return of David Henrie and Selena Gomez has brought me immense joy. Twelve years later, it’s heartwarming to see Justin and Alex back on our screens, albeit in slightly different circumstances this time around.

In a delightful reunion, David Henrie and Selena Gomez came together once more in the initial episode of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. Fans of the earlier Disney Channel show undoubtedly felt a surge of excitement as they witnessed the return of the Russo siblings, who had been absent for 12 years.

The freshly launched spin-off show centers around Justin Russo (portrayed by Henrie), now fully grown. This series chronicles the journey of the eldest Russo sibling as they traverse adulthood, balancing married life and parenthood to two kids, yet finds themselves no longer a wizard…

However, as Alex (Gomez) escorts Billie to his residence for aid, Justin recognizes it’s time to polish up his wand and take on the role of mentor for this budding apprentice.

Although the series introduces a completely fresh cast, led by Henrie, and Gomez appearing only for a single episode – could we expect to see additional Russo characters as the story unfolds?

Expect to see more appearances by Russo in the future, so keep an eye out,” Henrie suggested, holding back further details.

From the start, our hope has consistently been for everyone to rejoin the show. The original group was integral to its success, and we’re eager to have them return.

Enthusiasts of the initial series found themselves exhilarated recently as Henrie posted a picture featuring Gregg Sulkin, known for his role as the werewolf Mason Greyback, on the set of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.

Could this mean a Wizards vs Werewolves part 2? Well, fans will just have to wait and see!

12 years later, upon his return to the realm of Wizards, Henrie emphasizes the significance of introducing a fresh generation to the Russo universe, ensuring that the authenticity of the original remains intact throughout this process.

Henrie commented, ‘Selena [Gomez] was always discussing it, and we responded, “A whole new generation hasn’t seen our show yet. Maybe we should revive it. Perhaps we can create a fresh series for them.’

He added: “However, we also want to extend a heartfelt embrace to our devoted fans, assuring them that they’re important to us while watching. The narrative of this series is deeply intertwined with the original one, and it showcases the journey of our characters since you last saw them.

As a devoted enthusiast, I can assure you that the intriguing enigma embedded within their work is certain to leave an indelible mark. Not only does this make existing fans feel cherished and valued, but it also opens the door for a novice fan to immerse themselves in the captivating Russo magic.

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place will be available on Disney Plus on Wednesday 30th October.
