The Thing: Remastered Gameplay Highlights Tension, Combat, and Scuttlers

As a seasoned gamer with memories of huddling around CRT monitors and passing controllers in dimly-lit rooms, the trailer for The Thing: Remastered has stirred a sense of nostalgic excitement within me. The original game was a staple of my formative years in gaming, and the prospect of revisiting its chilling atmosphere and paranoia-inducing gameplay is tantalizing.

After keeping fans waiting with just screenshots, Nightdive Studios has unveiled gameplay footage for “The Thing: Remastered”. Set to release later this year on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch, the remaster is inspired by the 2002 survival horror game which itself was based on the 1982 movie. Here’s a glimpse of it in action:

Besides its third-person shooting and the appearance of Scuttlers, The Thing: Remastered encapsulates everything that made the original so captivating. The suspenseful paranoia of doubting your companions, unsure who might be contaminated, ready to betray each other in an instant. All these elements are still present and have never looked better, thanks to Nightdive’s KEX Engine.

Beyond offering 4K resolution and 144 frames per second on contemporary gaming systems, The Thing: Remastered boasts modern ambiance, responsive lighting effects, enhanced character designs, and animations, plus many additional upgrades. In terms of gameplay, original director Mark Atkinson has confirmed that improvements addressing issues from the 2002 launch will be implemented. Keep an eye out for further announcements and a possible release date in the upcoming months.
