Hallmark Wanted to Fire “Old” Talent Like Lacey Chabert, Lawsuit Says

As a fervent admirer of Hallmark movies and their timeless charm, I find myself deeply troubled by the recent allegations against Hallmark Media and Lisa Hamilton Daly. Having spent countless hours immersed in these heartwarming stories, I’ve grown to appreciate the diverse talents that grace our screens each holiday season.

Hallmark Media is facing legal trouble.

On October 9th, a former casting director for the company filed a lawsuit against both the organization and its Executive Vice President of Programming, Lisa Hamilton Daly. The suit alleges claims of age discrimination, wrongful termination, and intentional emotional distress, among other issues, as reported by TopMob News based on obtained documents.

79-year-old Penny Perry, who claims she was suddenly let go in April after nine years due to her age, asserts that Hamilton Daly has a preference for not casting actresses they deem “older” in Hallmark roles. This alleged bias is said to have affected even network veterans like Holly Robinson Peete and Lacey Chabert.

In the lawsuit, it was stated that Ms. Hamilton Daly frequently implied age as a disadvantage and an unsuitable trait for Hallmark, as she put it. Additionally, Ms. Hamilton Daly advised Ms. Perry that they required younger talent to replace the older ones.

60-year-old Peete, known for her roles in Hallmark movies such as ‘Holiday Heritage’ and ‘Our Christmas Journey’, was reportedly criticized by Hamilton Daly. He allegedly told Perry that due to her high cost and increasing age, she is no longer desirable for leading roles because audiences don’t want her anymore.

42-year-old Chabert, known for starring in over 30 Hallmark films, claimed Hamilton Daly said, “Since Lacy is aging, we need to find someone similar to replace her as she grows older.

The executive reportedly stated, “Our main actresses are reaching retirement age,” implying a need for fresh faces to step into their roles.

Regarding Perry, she mentioned that Hamilton Daly implied she was past her prime, essentially suggesting she was no longer suitable for her role at Hallmark due to being too old. Moreover, Perry suspects her dismissal stemmed from both age discrimination and a preference for younger employees with fresh talent.

TopMob News has attempted to contact representatives for both Peete and Chabert but has yet to receive a response. On the other hand, Hamilton Daly chose not to provide a statement when contacted by TopMob News.

Hallmark, however, vehemently denied the allegations.

According to a statement made by the company to TopMob News, both Lacey and Holly reside at Hallmark. Regarding any ongoing legal matters, we usually don’t comment. Although we reject these excessive claims, we prefer not to address an employment matter through the press.
