Sarah Hyland Opens Up on Healing After Past Abusive Relationship

As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for resilience and courage, I admire Sarah Hyland‘s journey immensely. Her life experiences have not only shaped her character but also given her a powerful purpose – to advocate for domestic violence survivors and help them feel less alone.

Sarah Hyland is turning her pain into purpose.

A former star of “Modern Family” expressed the significance of standing up for survivors of domestic violence, having endured an abusive relationship herself. She emphasized that lingering recollections can reside deeply within one’s soul, referring to this as the “abused part” of oneself. Sarah wishes to comfort others by revealing her own experience in the hope that they understand they are not isolated in their struggles.

Sarah expressed during an interview with Variety on October 24th, “It seems like you’re no longer interested in discussing this topic anymore.” She added, “I get that you want to move past it, and consider it settled. I fully comprehend the tendency to disassociate from it.

To be honest, the woman aged 33 admits to repeatedly feeling a strong sense of guilt for her actions, until something triggers her, at which point she becomes aware that a part of herself has undergone healing.

Sarah, who’s been blissfully wedded to Wells Adams since 2022 from Bachelor Nation, went on to say, “I’m not sure if that aspect of any woman can ever completely heal from it.” She further explained, “It leaves a mark on her spirit, in a way.

In other words, Sarah feels that promoting the cause of survivors is essentially “pouring more love onto that wound rather than harboring hate and leaving it untreated.

For millennia, this topic has remained unspoken,” she continued. “I believe that by discussing it openly, more individuals – women, men, and all people in general – who find themselves trapped in abusive relationships will feel empowered to share their experiences with their loved ones rather than being cut off from the community, which is often the initial tactic of an abuser.

In 2014, it was confirmed to TopMob News that the actress secured a restraining order against her former partner, Matt Prokop. Court documents obtained earlier by TopMob News reveal that Sarah alleged Matt had physically and verbally abused her during their relationship. Notably, she attributed her eventual escape from the situation to the assistance of her TV mother, Julie Bowen.

TopMob News reached out to Prokop’s reps at the time for comment but did not hear back.

Now, Julie is praising Sarah for her courage to help others in need.

In Julie’s words to Variety, she expressed that “It is through hardship that one’s character and identity are truly shaped.” Sarah’s journey, starting from her youth, has been marked by various trials – some physical, others emotional. Yet, she has consistently faced each of these moments with tenacity, poise, and a willingness to be open about her feelings.
