On that day, Davidson wore with pride a red shirt bearing the emblem of the Fire Department of New York, paying tribute to his father Scott Matthew Davidson, who tragically lost his life on September 11, 2001 while working as a first responder at the Twin Towers.
On the occasion, the former Saturday Night Live cast member, who often shares his family’s tale in public discussions, opted to let his clothing convey a message rather than words at the event. This gathering also signified his first public outing since he was rumored to have sought help at a wellness center for mental health concerns during the summer months.

As a devoted admirer, I’ve always respected the comedian for his bravery in discussing his personal battles. He’s shared about his post-traumatic stress disorder and borderline personality disorder, connecting these challenges in his mental health to the untimely loss of his father at an early age in his life.
According to Davidson, during an interview on the Real Ones podcast’s Patreon in March 2023, he remembered that his father had said he would collect him from school on September 11th. However, it was his mother who picked him up instead. For about three days afterwards, she didn’t explain what was happening.
Davidson explained that it was strange since we hadn’t realized he had passed away for nearly three weeks. Rescue efforts were still ongoing, with people being found alive amidst the wreckage. This created a sense of hope, an emotional rollercoaster as nobody knew how to handle the situation.
In an effort to explain how the distressing experience had altered his mental faculties, Davidson noted, “Eventually, you must deceive your mind, for it learns to adapt to trauma, to accept pain, and even to anticipate betrayal.
