Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart PS5 Pro Update Adds New Modes and Ray Tracing Options

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the latest update for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart has left me thoroughly impressed. Having dabbled in both PS4 Pro and PS5 versions, I can attest to the significant improvements this update brings, particularly on the PS5 Pro.

In addition to news about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Insomniac Games has rolled out an update for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. This update is specifically designed to enhance the game’s compatibility with the upcoming PS5 Pro, set to release on November 7th. The update includes two new modes: Performance Pro and Fidelity Pro. The Performance Pro mode focuses on achieving a smooth 60 frames per second, leveraging PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution for image quality similar to that of the Fidelity mode, while also activating all ray tracing features.

As a gamer, I’ve found that Fidelity Pro maintains a smooth 30 frames per second, but offers the flexibility to adjust ray tracing settings like RT Reflections. If I go for Medium, it cuts the reflection resolution in half to boost performance. Cranking it up to High renders reflections at full resolution and enhances their animations.

Additionally, there’s RT Ambient Occlusion available with a Medium setting that enhances the screen-space ambient occlusion details and a High setting that includes additional on-screen global illumination bounces. The level of improvement may differ depending on the scene, and you can always disable it to boost performance if needed.

While Fidelity Pro offers the option to boost frame rates using Variable Rate Refresh or 120 Hz Display Mode, it also enhances finer details like hair strands and increases the number of pedestrians and traffic in specific locations. On a positive note, this update benefits base PlayStation 5 users too, as it rectifies the issue with missing fur wetness in cinematics on Corson V.

Version 1.005.000 Release Notes

In the latest update for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart (version 1.005), you’ll now be able to enjoy enhanced features on your PlayStation 5 Pro! This includes brand-new graphical modes and customizable options. For additional details, check out the information below!

THE NEW GRAPHICS MODES

PERFORMANCE PRO (Default for PlayStation 5 Pro)

  • This mode targets a smooth 60 frames per second while retaining the image quality of the standard Fidelity mode through the use of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). All ray-tracing (RT) features are on, including ray-traced reflections, ray-tracing on water, and ray-traced window interiors. This mode is recommended for most players.

FIDELITY PRO

  • This mode targets 30 frames per second for players who want to experiment with new ray-tracing graphical features. These new features can be tuned individually to reach higher intermediate frame rates, especially when using the “VRR” or “120 Hz Display Mode” options. Pedestrian and traffic density may be increased in some areas, and fine hair detail is increased.

NEW GRAPHICAL TOGGLES

RT Reflections: Medium (Performance) / High (Fidelity default)

  • Set the quality level for ray-traced reflections. The “Medium” setting ray-traces at half render resolution, and the “High” setting ray-traces at full render resolution. The “High” setting will also improve the smoothness of animation in reflections. Only available in the “Fidelity Pro” graphics mode.

RT Ambient Occlusion: Off (Performance) / Medium / High (Fidelity default)

  • Use ray tracing to compute additional ambient occlusion lighting information. The “Medium” setting uses that information to augment screen-space ambient occlusion. The “High” setting also adds a screen-space GI bounce for additional ambient lighting information. The visual impact of this feature will vary greatly based on the scene.

MISCELLANEOUS FIXES

  • Fixes missing fur wetness in some cinematics on Corson V that was introduced in a previous patch
